Does Amazon take care of taxes on my income?

I signed up for my affiliate account on Amazon and when I clicked "Change payment method" it asks for my Tax Name and Tax ID Number.

So when I complete the process, I will automatically be taken care of for taxes right?

I don't have to do anything extra, or make any phone calls, etc...?

What country are you in? If the US, what state?

For countries outside the US, you'll likely need to get a US Federal Tax ID.

Most states in the US are no longer allowed to be Amazon Associates at the moment.

Current laws state in most states require the customer to pay the state sales tax. The Marketplace Fairness Act (and similar proposals) would require the seller to pay the state taxes.

As of right now, you must handle all the taxes yourself, including income tax, if it applies to you. If in the US, you must provide your SSN and full name.

If you are referring to the taxes that you have to pay on the income that you earn each tax year then nothing is automatic. Most countries in the world will require you to submit an annual income tax return (or a statement of your earnings, less expenses). You then will be liable to pay tax at the appropriate rate on your profit earned.

Taxes such as state, regional or value added tax (VAT) may or may not be taken care of by who ever you work with, such as Amazon, depending on their terms of service. Always read the terms of service and if in any doubt, email the company concerned for clarification, rather than relying on feedback from a forum. Keep copies of your email dialogue so that you have something to show the boogie man (sorry, the tax man) should he ever knock on your door.

      Just my thoughts,

      Jeff.

Unless you have incorporated your business (made it an LLC), you won't have tax ID number. Just file as a sole proprietor and give Amazon your social security number and personal information via a w-9. If you receive payments in a calendar year of more than $600, they will submit your income to the IRS and you will then have to claim that money come tax season. It's simple. Just wait to see if you get anything from Amazon in the mail come late December. If you make $599 or less from Amazon, you don't have to file.

They're asking for your Tax Name and ID number so they can
tell the government how much money you earned with them.

You will be responsible for filing your own tax return and paying your taxes.

You will need to pay taxes on your income. That is based the commission that you earned.

They collect sales for you and send it in.

I think the question was whether after supplying the initial tax info something else will also need to be provided to Amazon for ID verification. It wasn't about paying taxes.

Only someone recently signing up as an affiliate could answer that. If I read this right, the fact the question has to be asked is really just the tip of the iceberg. The real issue might be nexus avoidance. Or a prior account was banned. But who knows. Having to make a phone call and thus being tied to a number can be problem. Maybe someone knows the answer to what was actually being asked.
