Banners - Do you use them?

Hey warriors,

I'm thinking of getting some banners made for my site to help affiliate promote.

Do you use banners, if so what kind of results do you get?

Also what are the best and most common banners sizes that people use and put on their blogs etc?

Thanks for your help?

Craig

I use them in a few spots. My favorite is the 728x90 and the 250x250 squares.

I think when it comes to affiliates, we want images, articles, PDF's etc we can spread. Banners are such a drag by comparison

I wasn't expecting the 728x90 size to come up, do you use that across the top of a blog then?

I have the images, articles ready already, I just wanted to make sure I had the most popular banner sizes included as well.

Would anyone use peel away ad's?

I'm even going to create a brandable report for people to use.

If anyone is interested you can take a look here

You will need the JV code = free

      Thanks for the feedback.

I usually use the 728x90 as a footer.

Content is always better than ads IMO. Good job!

Just because some work better than others doesn´t mean
we should exclude them because they do work, but as with
everything else they gotta be created correctly and used
      correctly.

If you have an affiliate program you should offer as much
tools to your affiliates as possible.

Thanks for the feedback so far,

    So we have 300x250, 728x90, 250x250

I'm looking for a couple more sizes for now, I will
be adding all sizes eventually but for now I just
want to have the most popular sizes.

    Any other sizes?

I am a believer in banner ads.

    Some banner ad networks use 150 x 600, 150 x 200, 150 x 100. A very common one is 468 x 60.

Note that many take banners and advertise them on websites. So you need sizes that these websites take.

    Others are 160 x 600 , 120 x 600. The list is endless

If you want the bare minimum make sure you have a vertical bar, a horizontal bar and a large-ish square banner. You could also give affiliates full rights to modify them as they see fit so if they need to alter the size they can do it themselves.

Many of the Blog themes these days have 125x125 ad blocks built-in.....this "standard size" banner should also be included...

I wish more publishers would include peelaway ads in their affiliate tools.

You can get really high click through rates with a little creative marketing.

    Craig,

Before you move ahead with banner design, you might want to read the following article on banner blindness.

Banner Blindness: Old and New Findings (Jakob Nielsen's Alertbox)

OK, so it's from 2007, but Jakob Nielsen's site useit.com: Jakob Nielsen on Usability and Web Design gets 13,600 visitors
per month and beneath the site's simple layout there's a great deal of interesting and incredibly useful information.

Just thought the information might be helpful.

P.S. How's it going with your website copy?

Regardless of the preferred sizes of banners that you use, you should always have some '468 x 60' pixels banners in the arsenal as there are a lot of ad. sites and similar medium out there, which you might want to use, that still only accept '468 x 60'.

      Regards,
      Jeff.

I use banners on my site, but instead of using the generic banners everyone else uses, I have my merchants make custom banner for me. Been doing this for awhile, and my click-through rate on them is pretty decent.

So instead of making generic banner sizes, let your affiliates feel welcomed into asking for a certain size or theme. These types of banners usually get a higher click-through rate.

Yes. Of course I use them.

Why? It is simply because I click on some of them when I am looking for products or services and that banner happens to catch my attention.

That's why I use them because I believe it works! (since it works for me).

I use all kinds of banner - graphic as well as text version. All sizes depending on the web design to blend in.
