What aspects of Internet Marketing do you think will be gone?

...I asked because I was discussing this with a few friends of mine who are also full time online and everyone had a different answer.

I think SEO is going to implode, all these updates are eventually going to come to a head and ranking will be a thing only for corporations.

What do you think?

Search engines which only index "approved" sites or authors. Google has already taken the first steps.

My personal opinion is that the line between online and offline marketing will become hazy and they will be an integral part of the business ecosystem.

I believe if I could predict where Internet Marketing is going in 10 years time that I will be sitting on my yacht and quaffing Champagne with a bunch of super models in 10 years time.

I can't remember where the internet was at in 2000 but I remember the first time I ever had an Internet Connection and that was in 1996 and I remember my dial up connection and how long everything took...things are changing fast, very fast and I think we would be awestruck if we looked 10 years in to the future.

  • 10 years from now...

The ones with the better software will dominate. Best systems of automation. Best data mining. Best math. The rest will be fighting for -- not even cookie crumbs -- but the crumbs from the cookie crumbs.

But in some ways, that's not too much different from how it is nowadays. Just 10 years from now -- it will be a lot faster, a lot more efficent, and a lot more profitable for those who perfect their systems.

Well as you just eluded to jassen, "The moneys in the list"

I guess that part of the whole! internet marketing world has never changed...only the strategy in getting those highly sort-after golden emails have gotten harder and harder to obtain over the years

when you have the big boys on the block like ie: google, facebook and twitter fighting against you every step of the way and treat us like we're some sort of criminal for trying to gather up those money making emails, which doesn't help. social marketing for example is a tough game right now with constant badgering and rule changes every 2 minutes by those money making machines it almost makes you want to give up and stick with the 9 to 5 gig, but giving ups not an option.. with any great struggle its usually worth the potential rewards in the end...

      First off I don't know diddly but IMHO;

      1. You tube (being owned by Google) will slap the crap out of all the spammers on it too. Guys with their BS software that churns and burns 100 unique videos from one and auto posts them. What a load a....

      2. Mobile will continue to gain it's market share but will not replace laptop/desktop usage entirely. For at least the next few years being responsive will be good enough. Then you will likely have to have 2 sites one that is for all mobile devices and one that is for desktop/laptop use. The reason is mobile will evolve faster than anything else. Companies will create new mobile devices. A couple of years ago there were no tablets, now you have computer watches.

      3. I see a lot of money being made in emerging markets such as China and India. As those countries come online they will drive untold sums of commerce. I see that as being a huge area for IM'ers as well. Do you think that all those people getting online won't want to know how to make money?

Yes the next marketing frontiers will be BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China).

Here's a million dollars for everyone on this thread for free. You can feel free to send me money if you want (I'm unbreakably ethical, not stupid).

Take the marketing ideas that we have here that we use to make money that you already know and think are old hat.

Go to Elance etc... have them translated into any BRIC country you want to focus on and start marketing there. They have their You Tube equivalents for you to make videos on to drive traffic etc... They have guest posting opportunities too for traffic.

The stuff we think is yesterdays news as far as MMO tactics is Guru Legend material to them.

          Think about it.....

I respect your opinion, but I feel that's debateable. Ranking is still possible. I define implosion as 100% impossible. No loopholes, no loose ends. Now, you can still rank, you get slapped after a while but if you know what you are doing SEO can still be useful. How long it will last is the question.

Sure, ranking is still possible. But SEO long ago reached the point of diminishing returns for all but the ultra diligent and it's going to continue to get harder.

Considering how hard it has become and how much bullshit rebuilding one needs to do after an update, I'd think people would be smart enough to pack it in and do something different.

I believe, like many others have said, that mobile and email marketing will become the dominant forces within the next 10 years. Laptops and computers are being steadily replaced by smartphones and tablets so mobile marketing becoming the leading marketing method is not so much a prediction but more a certainty, IMHO.

Personally I would not focus on seo, You can pay someone to do seo marketing for you but I think you need to focus on list building and getting an audience. Even if google updates knock your website off the charts you still will have your own email list that you can use to drive traffic to wherever you want them to go.

I think IMHO we will see a period of consolidation. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a string of buy outs on the horizon for a whole lot of little but profitable online services. Not e-commerce sites as such, but services that you pay for every month. I can see a lot of these being bought out by the big guys - Google, Amazon, Microsoft, eBay... all the usual suspects.

I think we will be doing a lot more things online than we do right now. Things like visiting the doctors will all be done online (at least initially there will be an option). Faster internet speeds could see the resurgence of chat rooms (remember them?) but this time round they will be "video chat " with all the benefits of that! We can see the beginning right now with Google hangouts and webinars, but people will just use it for social reasons., not business.

Imagine voice recognition software attached to a live feed of relevant voice activated advertising serving up relevant ads in every chat room! You are talking about football with your mates, and there's a constant stream of football related merchandise and geo located ticket offers being served to every one on the chat. The possibilities are endless!!!!

I think there will be an even greater shift away from regular jobs and "going to work" for a lot of people. The daily commute will be a thing of the past and working on the net from home will be MUCH bigger than it is now. Jobs will be much more fluid and working for 2, 3, or even 4 employers will be common place. Big opportunities for tech savvy IM'ers!!!!

I can see internet advertising (media buying) becoming as clogged and competitive as off line advertising is now. Just wait till the cartel of big advertising agencies that do TV ads right now get on to Internet advertising in a big way. We could all see ourselves frozen out in a similar manner to what happened to Adwords.

When the ad agencies realise that you can get $5, $6, even $10 a click rather than a few cents they will be chasing the big money. Big traffic websites will realise that working with these large ad agencies can net them hundreds of thousands instead of a few hundred for showing a video ad. You wont be able to buy ad space online unless you have a BIG marketing budget.

This links in with traditional publishing. All publishing will be online. I think we will see the death of printed material completely.

I can also see TV and the internet becoming much more integrated. Sitting at your PC will probably be a thing of the past for most people. The "games console" will also be the internet server, and satellite decoder all in one attached to the TV and streaming to every room in the house. You will be interrupted in the middle of watching your favourite movie by an alert that someone has posted about you on Facebook and you'll be able to click the TV remote to read the Facebook post.

I know this isn't exactly answering the question but...In ten years time I know what wont have changed and that is people.

Yeh, they maybe on the internet, on their mobile devices, tracked 24/7 by satellite, fed constantly with social media related "news" and adverts from all their contacts globally, real time... BUT they will still be people with the same wants, desires, needs, and passions, as they have now.

Businesses will still need customers, and people will still be buying. Maybe in a different form, but there will still be transaction.

Look at the "old" days of direct response marketing. The principles are still relevant. Sure they maybe online but good copy still sells and making false claims still gets you banned from most places.

One thing you need to realise right now. In 10 years time there will be millions more "old people." This is the real demographic time bomb in the west that no one is really talking about or tackling. Services for the elderly will be huge, but most of these people wont be that tech savvy.

So, in a nut shell... study people, and their buying psychology, and you'll be set up for web business in 10 years time. :-)

I enjoyed this thread. I change from the usual. :-)

Google will start to go downwards in the event that only big names will pop out in search engines.. because you can`t find everything you want on big websites, sometimes small ones have the cherry.
