When people say that you need to give good content to your list, do they mean it in the form of sending out a newsletter with a link to a blog post/article or does it just mean, always promote good quality products to your list that would truly benefit them.

I would Say Both, when I create my list I try to place myself in someone seat who is on my list.... What would make me open this email? Free or Discounted software, Free Webinar with some updated training that is teasing me to buy, Some crazy exclusive video explaining vital info concerning the niche your promoting, and then a look into the List Builders life a little (Social Interaction)
Great Content will always be King and a little Transparency is Queen......

That, or something like/equivalent to that. You can even send some/most of the content in the "newsletter", if you call it a "newsletter". (But it's good to get your subscribers trained to click on some links, too).

That as well, but the people to whom you should be listening don't mean just that.

You need to be respected as a provider of valuable enough information for your subscribers to be willing to trust your recommendations when you make them. Otherwise you can even promote only fantastic quality products which will help every subscriber you have, but most of them will never know that because they won't buy them.

Yep, that hits it right on the head. You have to develop a trusting relationship. Treat them like valued friends. Like you do when you recommend a top class shirt that's on special to a friend.

  • Hi,

As they say content is king. A newsletter is only one way. Follow up emails with good free information show your list that you want to help them not as too many other people, only their money?

Selling should take the form of a recommendation or better still a personal review of the good and bad based on your personal use of what you are promoting? If you didn't buy it why should they?

Again too many people sell what they didn't buy themselves. If they didn't think it was worth buying why the hell do they think anyone else would? Yes it costs to buy but at least then you know not to sell what turned out to be overhyped junk.

As well as a newsletter, a free report or an ebook which doesn't have to be more then 50 or so pages which you wrote yourself can also be given away for free with a follow up video course based on your book as a follow up for sale product later once a relationship has been established with your list. Or a video mini-course as a taster to one you could sell later on?

Love your list, treat them as human beings and some could eventually become your loyal customers as long as when you do sell it is using a link at the end of free valuable content in a follow up email with an explaination as to the advantages of that product such as it will save them time or money?

Tell them what's in it for them. Have a strong call to action without hype on your website and emails.

    Regards,

    Stephen & Jennifer.

Ideally you would send good content in your emails but also some links to your website making your audience used to click links. It also gives extra traffic to your website that have other links that could be ads/recommendation and so forth.

    Hi,

A mixture of providing great content and persuading your readers to take
action by clicking on your links is the main goal here.

That's why you do email marketing right?

    1. You get people to open your emails

    2. You provide some great information

    3. YOU get your readers to click on your links

    That's it.

Too many people way over complicate email marketing when the main
goal is to focus on the above.

    All the best

It's about building a relationship with your list instead of just looking at them like a one stop buy my product system.

When you give your list truly valuable information and you exceed their expectations of what they may have a predisposition of what they're going to get.

That's when it's more probable that not only are they going to buy one product from you. Through out your value based email sequence they may buy another more expensive product as well.

Put it this way: what makes you want to open and/or read through an email? A product pitch by itself? Or maybe a valuable tidbit of information, offered with no catch, that's relevant to you.
I think that's what most of the replies are saying. Nurture your list with valuable information, and sure you can pitch them but not all the time. Show them you care first, and they'll be more likely to take your recommendations later.

      I would say both,

What you are sending your list you always want to make sure is quality, and what I have seen done while being on others list they always mail offers with great content explaining how that offer can benefit you.

Now granted, not everyone will buy that product, but some will and more thereafter if it resonates with them and gives them a sense that it is benefiting them.

Always give your subscribers the best stuff possible. Weather it is free or premium, it should always be quality.

  • It depends on the type of list you want to build. There are at least 4 different types that I discuss in detail on my list building solutions training page on MSB.

Typically, you'll want to add content that educates in the frame of a story mixed on with emails that promotes.

Of course theres always the churn and burn model where your just promoting while constantly bringing on new leads. Many would say never do this but it depends on your objectives.
