I need help, product creation advice..

Hey Guys,

I have been a long time lurker here as many have and i really need help with the direction i am going with a recipe ebook im creating.

I am about 80% complete with my recipe ebook and its looking fantastic but the major hurdle i have really overlooked is the recipe images, i convinced myself it would be ok to leave images out but now im really worried its going to put people off.

I mean me personally if i was looking through a recipe book i would want to see an image of a completed meal to see if i like the look of it.

What do you guys think? i have over 100 recipes it would take me forever to cook them all up myself and take images or i could buy the images from stock photo vendors but i doubt i would find them all anyway and it could get expensive.

The other option i considered was to take them from google images and flip and change them around a little but i could get in huge trouble for that if i get caught and its not really the way i want to do things.

I know i may have already answered my own questions here, has anyone else been in the same situation that could offer advice or a solution?

Ben

Other food recipe sites maybe? You could write and ask for permission.

Allrecipes, JoyofBaking are a couple I know

I agree with JrJohn. I'm sure you can find some sites willing to let you use their photos in exchange for a link.

This is probably your best bet, I understand it's not easy to get the pictures but if you want the book to be a success IMHO you need pictures.

Let's test the product how it converts. Once you get an idea about the conversion rates and you have some $ in your pocket. Then you can go and edit the ebook later

    I hope this helps.

If you think about this for a moment you'll see how flawed this idea is.

Ok that could be a good idea i have set up the site using wishlist member so once you buy you can go the the members area and download it so i could always update the book later and email the members.

Lifetime Membership could be a good sales point, download it now and get access to all future updates and bonuses.

Why not for go the pics in the ebook? Offer it for free and then offer a membership ship site after they optin for the ebook at say $4 per month. Then just do a Google search for images that you are free to use.

Or add images as you go. Every other recipe seems to work on the sites my wife goes to.

      Hi there,

Personally, I love the photos in cookbooks and even only try the recipes that I can see a photo of... maybe it's just me but I love cooking!

I know it's not easy to do 100 recipes and taking photos of all of them, so maybe you can take the ones that would be most visually-appealing, or at least the ones you don't mind cooking so you can have it for breakfast / lunch / dinner that day? ehhe.. just a thought. But again, I'm very visual when it comes to choosing my cooking books so... that's my 2 cents.

Three words - User Generated Content

For this initial effort, cook and photograph a few of the recipes to show the style of photo you're looking for. Add a page to the book asking people to send you their own photos. If you use them in either an updated edition of this book or in a future volume, they get a photo credit and a free copy of the book it appears in. What the heck, throw in a contributor credit on your web site.

Once you get a base of readers, and you are ready to start working on the second recipe book, ask your readers/contributors to do the initial photos for you.

Give as many credits, public thank yous, blog mentions, maybe a Pinterest/Instagram/whatever page for reader photos, etc. as you can. People may surprise you with the number of people your contributors tell about being in your book.

Using pictures are usually what's expected in a cookbook. But you can just offer lifetime updates to your product and include pictures and other bonuses as time goes on.
