Advise With Affiliate Marketing Landing Page

I have a new site that I put together and see it's not converting very high. I was wondering if anyone could provide some ideas on how to produce a higher conversion for a free trial entertainment product.

My landing page redirects the user to the advertisers registration page. Should I redirect them to their main page first? I know it adds it extra steps for them but does it create more validity? Should the user be told before hand what site they're being redirected to?

Any other advise is appreciated!

As notoriousstef1 says it would be helpful to see what you have going on currently to better advise you.

But generally speaking you should be pre-selling the registration page. This can be done in a number of ways, but if you are just dropping people on a registration page then as you have found conversion wont be that great. You have to remember that your visitor is only interested in the benefit to them ie you have to answer the "whats in it for me" question before they agree to register. If the registration page itself doesnt answer this then you are better off either sending to the main page as you say, or I would suggest a better thing to do would be to pre sell on your own page and then send to the registration page.

You need to post a link to the landing page so that we can get a better look at and to better advise you. I don't think it really matters how many steps the visitor has to go through but what really matters here are the benefits you have in store for your customer, the value in the offer of your webcopy and the ease of the steps.
