Knowing When to Monetize?

Hello all. I've been a longtime lurker of this site, but finely think I may have something worth asking about. I have an adult social networking site specifically region based. Since I started the site, I've averaged about 114 visitors per day according to Statcounter and 210 visitors per day according to AwStats. I've averaged 2.5 new member sign ups per day. (Keeping in mind I started the site the second week of September.)

So basically I'm not sure if I need to be focusing more on getting additional traffic or if I should be thinking of how to monetize. I have CPA ads for Fleshlight and Adam & Eve currently, and they have averaged less than a click a day so far.

So am I jumping the gun a little bit, or are my stats a bit premature?

Damn... What am I not doing then? The CPA ads just are not cutting it, and the adult world has a lot less options than general sites it seems.

I general rule of thumb I go on is first monetise your site and then second get the traffic.

Think of ways of increasing the pages per visit of your site, there are many techniques to do so in order to increase advertising revenue.

Try different positions of your ads, try popups and see if it works.

Do you email your members regularly to get them back to the site? Spend more time trying to get your CURRENT users to use the site more, and less of your time attracting new ones.

Very interesting, especially getting the old members back. I've tried a few different types of ads for little success. The current ratio obviously has a bad click rate even though I'm getting the impressions. My current pageviews per user is at 3 according to Statcounter which seems good to me, but I don't really know that much obviously.

The way you put it makes me worried I'm really losing out...I feel like I'm at the wheel and the wheels locked up and I can't turn it into a profit if my life depended on it!

    Traffic and signups??

    You should have monetized yesterday

You have people that are interested in your site, and presumably a list. With you a little creativity, you can def monetize!

It seems that I hadn't fully fleshed out the idea of going full on adult with the more explicit ads. I guess this is something that seems to be successful no matter where you search. I still don't know quite how to measure what my expectations should be with income. I was reading a member earlier with 10k daily hits and something like a dollar a month income. This can get intimidating fast.

One of my favorite quotes is:

"Expectations are nothing but disappointments waiting to happen"

I never "expect" to make a certain income

I "set an intention" to create that income, which is an entirely different concept.

Start experimenting with different ways of monetizing and ignore that voice inside of your head that is telling you should be intimidated based on what other people are doing.

You've got a site and people are interacting with it.

There is a way to make money with it and you will find it if you make a definite decision to do so

If the users sign up to get something, then offer them something premium. Ask the regular signups to subscribe for something premium.

I think at this stage you can do both.
    - You can setup an autoresponder to monetize your list, or display CPA ads on your site, just make sure you place them in a way that doesn't disturb the visitors.
    - Continue to work on your traffic generation, the more the better.

The ball is in your court, you should decide whether you are running a charity organization or would love more and more traffic.

If am building a site to make money i usually monetize it right away, if you have same plan for your social networking site then you gotta do the same but remember to keep it low and non-distracting or offensive.

Another thing, the more traffic you have the better income you will generate. I won't make building more traffic a secondary issue too cos i often have more than one primary goal, that's me for you.

If you're in business, you're in business. Whether you're getting one visit per day or one million you should have your marketing and sales plan running. Why would the number of views or signups or whatever matter?

    What's the site? I wanna join .

No seriously, 2.5 new sign ups for 114-210 hits per day is good. Scale it up and don't worry about whether or not your stats are a bit "premature". It's going to be much more than premature 10 years from now once you've built up your site into an adult site empire. Don't give up, good job on your marketing, and be sure to SEND ME THAT LINK!!! LOL... (just kidding, kinda... )

Monetize now. Fleshlight should prove to be a good seller. Adam and Eve is good, and consider purchasing wholesale adult movies from a distributor that you can sell also. I'm confident you could jack up the price of these DVD's and make a nice profit on each DVD sale. It's a fun business to be in. Good luck though.

I say you should monetize as soon as you get a click per day. If you have a click everyday then it is the right time.

You are definitely on the right path but you should have definitely already monetized your site in the beginning so that your users would've already saw the products from jump street. It's not too late but you could have already had some commissions if you monetized from the beginning.

All the best on your journey.

I should say that I have had the Fleshlight and Adam and Eve ads up for a month now with no results. After some digging and research, I've put up some dating and cam offers which seem to do better with adult traffic. I guess I just need to keep trying different things.

I feel like I'm doing something incredibly wrong. Should I be making more than pennies a day from this sort of traffic or is adult traffic just really that bad right now?
