Do you use "GoGVO" for hosting? *Important, Possibly*

Hey all,

This might have been talked about before, but I thought you would all like to know.

I have an old account with GoGVO (formerly Kiosk.ws) that I had gotten way back when and there are some sites on there that we never got around to swapping over.

I recently realized that GoGVO does something that is, in my mind, pretty sketchy. I didn't know until about 3 days ago because I never bothered to check...

Turns out that they, by default, make all of your hosted site's 404 pages redirect to their own stupid MLM programs.

So, if you have a broken link on your site, or if someone types in the wrong URL, or if you send out an email without double checking links...

All of them are being redirected to the GoGVO MLM site...

I know, always check your links before posting them, and you "should" have custom 404 pages regardless, etc... but just in case you want to make sure that you aren't losing a bunch of people in the event of a mistake, I'd suggest you check your panels (or contact CS and tell them to turn that cr&p off on your sites).

Actually, regardless of what hosting you have, you should check your 404 pages and make sure they aren't doing the same thing.

Not trying to "call out" GoGVO (even though I personally think this is INSANELY sketchy to actively steal your customer's visitors): just wanted to let you all know that GoGVO (and possibly other companies) do this and you should make sure you aren't having visitors leeched.

Happy Sunday, Warriors.

This isn't the first time someone has said this. There was another thread about this a bit ago but I think it got removed. HostGator does the same thing unless you create your own 404 pages.

I believe if you just create your own 404's, you should be fine however, it is pretty sketchy..

Only unethical hosts rewrite your 404s like that.

Hostgator has done this for years now -- even before the EIG buyout -- and it was unethical then.

My advice? Find a better host that doesn't pull shenanigans,.
