Amazon Widgets

Is anyone using Amazon's prebuilt widgets on their sites? I've never used them myself (yet), but I'm toying with the idea of adding a carousel for Best Sellers in the sidebar of one of my Amazon review sites.

Are they worth the effort, or a waste of space?

    I used to, but on the sites I use Amazon I find single product links more popular.

    I've heard of those, but upon research I also heard that it didn't produce many sales for other Amazon affiliates. I personally haven't tried it, however.

    I use them for my books on some of my sites. The carousel works best as a sidebar widget and then I use aStore for a page.

    It does drive traffic.

      Hi Di,

      Thank you for that. Do you mean you use them to promote books you've written, or simply books that might be relevant to the content of your sites?

      aStore is something else that I've never really experimented with yet, but I'm starting to wonder whether it might have some use. I gather you're embedding it in a page - do you make any special effort to encourage visitors onto that page, or do you just link to it from your navigation and hope that some users find it?

    I used those Widgets in some of my blog and found it doesn't work good for all category.

    In my experience, you will get MUCH better results from taking the time to write original, honest product-reports, based on the real experience of real buyers. It seems like"more work", but when you actually calculate how much time you put into writing a really good original product report, compared to putting up some content with an auto-widget next to it, and see the difference in income, I am very sure you'll find the same as me. But, of course, as usual in IM, don't take my word for it . . . TEST this in practice for yourself!

      I agree with you entirely. Most of my reviews are original, 1000+ word posts with an image of the product and several text links.

      My interest in the widgets, particularly the carousel, is as a last ditch attempt to capture a click from visitors who aren't persuaded by the review. One on the sidebar might have that effect, but I was also wondering about putting the horizontal version at the end of each review. That way, if the final call to action link doesn't appeal, they have something else to click on instead of just the Back button. On the other hand, it might just be a distraction.

    I do use them, but text links convert much better. A combination of both is never a bad thing.
