Question about image/meme sites

First, Hello everyone. I am rather new to IM and Warrior forum. I started my first project a month ago and reached a wall. It was intended to be an authority site in a health niche, specifically heartburn/GERD. I realized it was a very saturated niche and I was unable to get much traffic to the site, even if I had, I think monetizing wouldn't have worked well. Anyways, it was a learning experience.

I have moved on and now from one failure, many new ideas have sprouted. One of which is creating image dump / meme websites. However, before I tread down that path does anyone have an experience with this? I just want to set up some auto-uploading picture sites that would also share pics on facebook. I would upload a few pics a day. Monetization would be primarily adsense. What do you guys think?

Examples of this would be hugelol.com, geekfill.com, cuteoverload.com, justcuteanimals.com.

If done correctly is this a decent idea?

Meme sites are very saturated. -> hence you would have the same problem.

Also, for your health site, there is no saying you can not succeed, you only did it for a month. If you want to be successful with a project you should stick with it for at least 5-6 months in order to make sure it did not work. Also, I think that you could have made some profit if you did it right.g

True. Do you have any other interests to branch out to?

I really think that the key to making this particular strategy work is doing it within your own unique social sphere of influence.

if you continuously build your social networks daily, and pay attention to the kind of meme's, ect that get a lot of activity, with consistency, you can get a lot of likes and shares (and exposure for your link) by simply re-uploading a similar viral video or image and sticking a link with it.

I have found that this is also a great way to build a list if you just direct the link (301 domain redirect) to a lead capture page....[though I have something to sell to that list, so wouldn't work with an adsense model.]

One thing that I have noticed that sites are doing is posting long, comic book style memes on the site and then posting a pictures of 1/4 or 1/2 of it on social media/ect so that people will read it and have to click through in order to read the rest.

Just have to get creative and brainstorm new ways to get people's attention and get clicks.

The bar of entry was a lot lower five years ago. Nowadays the people running these have a niche site content network where each individual site doesn't make much, but the network as a whole might.

      Thanks for your replies.

Hmm, cpwebsite, perhaps I will resurrect the heartburn site at some point. I am the type who wants to see results quickly so I scrapped working on the heartburn site.

What is discouraging at this point is that I am just learning wordpress therefore my design skills are lacking. Thanks for your motivation.
