Landing pages - Im getting mixed up

Hello all

I need some clarification on landing pages please. It seems there are two uses for these but I want to make sure I am on track

1) Coming soon site: So a pre sales list building landing page that will tell prospects what is to come and offer a freebie to download

2) As an entry page to a site: So as the prospect visits your URL they land on the page for the free download.

I have read the posts in the forum and I am currently building my sites in Wordpress and so assume I would use a wordpress landing page...But can I add an HTML landing page to WP?

If I am going for a fresh site build, including HTML landing page with no HTML knowledge is it worth learning enough HTML to do the job (with everything else I need to learn)

Thanks

    Far more than just two.

A "landing page" is the simply the page on which you arrange for any given kind of traffic, from any source, to "land".

It's up to you what your landing page is, or what you choose to use as a landing page for your traffic. A landing page can be a squeeze page; it can be an opt-in page that isn't a squeeze page; it can be a sales page; it can be an article; it can be the home page of a blog; it can be a content-rich page; it can be anything you like. If it's where your traffic "lands", on clicking a link, then it's a "landing page". Specifically, don't imagine that all landing pages are trying to sell something, or trying to get people to opt in.

Yes; that's also a type of landing-page, if you have traffic landing on it.

I'm not quite sure whether you mean "opt-in page", perhaps? Certainly both the examples you've given are types of "opt-in pages". "Landing page", as you can see from some of the examples mentioned above, is a far wider term than "opt-in page", which is itself a wider term than "squeeze page".

I wouldn't think so. It isn't, for me. Why not just use WordPress as your CMS, as most Warriors seem to?

Thanks Alexa, Yeah I was getting my terms a little mixed up there and I understand that a visitor lands on a landing page... I'm feeling dim now lol

I was meaning an opt in page really, a way of starting to build my list.

Yes, I see ... well, you can "classify"/"subdivide" how you want, really, I think ...

To me, the big distinction for "opt-in pages" is between "squeeze pages" and "non-squeeze pages", really.

A "squeeze page" is a page which contains a prominently incentivized opt-in (usually text, but it can be video/audio instead or as well) and no other content. The idea of a squeeze page is that there are no other exits from it, no leaks at all, and (apart from the back button and the window-closing button) no option other than submitting contact information.

The split-testing I've done for myself has been between squeeze and non-squeeze page opt-ins (the non-squeeze page opt-ins I've used as landing pages have always been the content-rich home pages of content-rich sites, even if they're very small sites of only 3-4 pages, but still with a prominently incentivized opt-in). I've always found, for myself, that squeeze pages build a bigger list that earns me less money. (There are reasons for that: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post7939758 ).

None of this answers your question about HTML or WordPress, sorry.

I don't know enough about that, and am personally technophobic and incompetent and biased against marketers learning HTML, which I regard as completely unnecessary and a waste of time, but this one is possibly an idiosyncratic and prejudiced opinion and I know that not everyone here agrees with it.

        Thanks again

I don't like the squeeze pages myself and they annoy me so will go with the non squeeze page option. For this, I was going to use a 'landing page' with my free report in exchange for email address only with a large 'no thanks take me to website' button. Do you use this type or have the opt-in as part of your home page?

I won't go down the route of learning HTML, why bother when I have so much more to learn and I don't mind outsourcing that if needed as well as maybe my copy writing if mine isn't good enough.

I use optin forms that are displayed on a page full of content on a site full of content. I use WP and have an optin form on the page itself and in the sidebar - 2 different styles.

These work well for me, and don't seem to drive people away by the truckload.

Squeeze pages, or those *&^%%%#@ ones that look like a video should play but just give you a message that tells you to sign up to see the video annoy the snot out of me. Or actually, they used to, now I just move on to the next site. :-)
