Internet Marketing Degree

I'm noticing colleges like Full Sail are offering internet marketing degrees now.

linky link

Worth it? The end of the IM vs. College Debates? Or would one be better off sticking to a handful of ebooks and be done with it?

Personally, I feel formal education systems such as high school's and college's condition you to restrictive thinking. They're designed to make you a jac (just another citizen).

Then again, if everyone opened their eyes and became financially well off and successful, who would clean our toilets?

      Robots.

(I know, you were being sarcastic, but it's true. Free the mind and the rest will follow.)

I've heard bad things about full sail. A friend of mine went there for the game development program and said it was terrible. He did okay afterwards but mostly from self-study. Standards were low and many of the students finished while still being largely incompetent and were definitely not ready to compete in the job market.

It's pretty hard to get a better degree than what you get from SOHK Academy.

You're taught many life lessons not covered in any class behind closed walls. You'll quickly learn that if you don't do it yourself, it'll never get done. Your mind will expand and discover you don't get paid for your time, but by taking action. By quickly learning to over-come those hurdles and roadblocks ahead of you that's limiting your progress. Tip: No hurdle or roadblock that stands before you is as difficult to over-come as the ones you create yourself.

There is a mountain load of information for newbie IMers to learn. No wonder it's over-whelming. However, like many things in life, there are very few legitimate shortcuts to get the job done and learning "the hard way", "through trial and error", is often the best teacher. So with that in mind, I suggest creating a blueprint, a map, a plan of action on what needs to be done. Then take daily steps to complete those tasks.

    Something to think about.

    No chance.

Most of the stuff that makes money online is not taught at school.

    Mindset
    Strategy
    Relationships
    Technical ability
    Business Models
    Cashflow
    Recruitment

Better to drop $ 200 at your local Barnes and Noble... IMHO

I think this is an important point...

Learning the success pathway of I.M. is not restricted to online e-books and training.. many gems, skills and important lessons can be found in your book stores and libraries.

Um, a degree in Internet marketing?

What the bloody hell is a degree anyway?

If it were me I'd stay away, Internet Marketing is a self taught business and all thos businesses that are supposed to have had invested money with small local marketing companies, are now taking advice from all the people whom are self taught.

IMO self taught is the only way to go with anything if you want true success in life, there are no barriers, it's all up to you, no dependance on a course/course leader, you know you've either gotta do it, or you're only to let yourself down.

Yesterday, I self taught myself some HTML, within 1 hours I had a better understanding of HTML, than I did after 2 years at a college course, on programming and computing.

So good I was even over at W3Validator and came out with this..

"This document was successfully checked as XHTML 1.0 Strict!"

On 2 pages... i was very chuffed me.. and the course, the so called course that is so super it makes you rich, the one I laid my eyes on ever since I knew about the word work... couldn't even give me a proper understanding of that within a whole of two years..

Hmmm there goes the mentored courses... once again proving themesleves useless..

Your better off getting a general business degree or MBA from an accredited online university, it will be worth more.

Kind of like getting a masters degree in acting, then expecting to be the next Brad Pitt...

I am actually looking at Full Sail right now (considering they are down the street from me)

This is what I get so far:

    1. The full course is online (of course!)
    2. You need to purchase a Mac air pro with the full software needed for school (Almost $2,500) included in tuition
    3. The course is about $53,000 for a Bachelor's

With that said, I am thinking of enrolling. Since I do not qualify for student loans (that I know of) I will have no other choice but to pay for my internet marketing degree with my current internet marketing skills.

Why would I do this considering that internet marketing knowledge is ever evolving and mostly available for free and in a ton of ebooks?

    Credibility!

People in general are sheep. They want to follow and be directed since a lot of them cannot think for themselves.

An internet marketing degree can be a huge selling point to the sheeps as I would be one of the few internet marketers with a degree in internet marketing, not to mention what would happen to my off line business.

I can easily see million dollar launches because of the internet marketing degree alone. (Yes, I know people that do not have a degree that complete million dollar launches)

But the degree alone will throw me to another level.

That said, I can also do the same with no degree but it will take me longer. At least that is what I think.

Here is a TIP for full sail: You give me free tuition, I make million dollar launches, you use me in all your TV, Radio and web commercials as your first graduate who hit a million dollars with internet marketing. In return, you get a ton of new students

Can't help to dream a little.

I got my degree in Internet Marketing from the University of Hard Knocks!

But seriously we had one here in Australia and it was so far behind because by the time they set their curriculum and written the associated text books it will have all changed.

Having said this I started a course at Uni on marketing and the basic principles still apply.

YOU are your best teacher because no one knows you better than yourself. IM Degrees are a waste of time and money. I say do your own research and don't stop learning. You dont learn unless you make mistakes. I say trial and error are the best ways to learn. Lookup success stories from the top online gurus and you know what i mean
