For those in offline marketing...would you do ecommerce?

Quiestion for the offline marketers in the WF world...

If you met with a client that didnt just want a blog/static website...but wanted a full ecommerce shopping cart solution that allows for order processing and customer management etc.

Would you take on the job?

Pros:
Would be able to charge a great deal for setup and customization

Cons:
Time consuming
Would need to update regularly with item prices/sales/new products
etc.

So given the fact most offline businesses know nothing about online stuff...I'd assume that I'd be the person basically managing their website...which would take away my own time from finding new clients for SIMPLE website creation / SEO etc.

Would it make sense to get involved with ecommerce stuff?

Is there a way to do it without getting my time swallowed up?

How much would you charge an offline business for setup AND monthly maintenance if they asked you to create such a solution for them?

    Hi Dexx,

I have been marketing to the offline local folks for a couple of months now. I use VIP cart for the ones who want to setup a store but don't have anything yet. Its a pretty full functional script and does what they want it to do.

My prices may be a bit low compared to some on here.....but I give the client great service and make a decent bit of profit as well.

If they want me to set up a shopping cart, site, promote it and maintain it I charge $500 up front and between $150 - $200 a month for maintance. Depending on the business I will do between 1 -3 additions each week to the products in the shop. It only takes a few minutes for each one.

I have heard of some people here that charge $5000 for websites and such...I just dont see how they can find people willing to pay that much.

but anyway, my clients are happy and I'm happy so that's what I do.

I would recommend talking to a few businesses and get 1 or 2 clients to start then expand as you are able. you can also outsource the task of adding products, building websites and other chores once you have 3 or 4 clients on a monthly plan.

    Dexx,

First I would determine what they mean by full e commerce shopping solution.

It could be as easy as setting up a paypal shopping cart or using DLguard.

There are ready made solutions that might fit what you need, one shopping cart etc.

Remember you are providing services, not selling websites, shopping carts etc.

Also don't forget to search the warriors for hire section, you could find the right person to handle that part for you ~!
