If Newbie Threads Make Your Blood Boil. Look Away!

Hey Guys,

I'm not coming in here thinking I can make six figures overnight, and I'm not expecting you guys to give me all your hard earned knowledge for free.

I'm a complete newb with no knowledge or experience in IM, I want to replace my current income as a full time affiliate marketer. I know this will take a lot of hard work.

The dilemma I have is that I have no knowledge whatsoever, and need to find, then learn, and then finally implement a path or a blueprint, that will allow me the financial freedom everyone deserves a shot at.

What I'm asking here is where can I go to find the map to begin my journey of success. Could some one please pay me forward some advice or direction or recommendations to any materials I can obtain to work my absolute ass off and achieve results?

I sincerely thank anyone who is forthcoming.

Nasher

If you read the threads here on the forum, you will learn enough to get you started and ask questionns if you don't understand something. You are a War Room member, so you will find methods for you to preview. You should be able to find your direction after a short time.

      Thanks for your response.

I have taken the wrong paths many times, im basically calling out to see if someone would be ever so kind just to pick me up and plonk me on that right path to being a successful affiliate marketer who began with no knowledge.

Internet marketing is just a blanket term that covers a very wide range of activities. 'Affiliate marketing' is a more narrow field, but is still vague. Ask ten affiliate marketers how they make their money and you will get 30 different answers.

Asking to be put on the right path for you is an impossible question. There is no one right path and even if someone could give you a step-by-step explanation of what works for them, the chances are that it might not work as well for you.

That is the true challenge that faces newcomers to this business - understanding that while all the ebooks, courses, coaching programs and 'guaranteed' solutions may offer real, workable strategies for the person doing the teaching, those strategies might not work for you personally. It is not that it is a scam, just that there are way too many variables. There is no one-size-fits-all.

Success in Internet marketing - whichever type you choose to follow - comes from studying the principles of marketing, learning about different strategies and methods and then adapting them to your own personality and way of working.

Every one of us who has achieved a measure of success has followed that process. I don't know of anyone who bought an off the shelf business plan and made it work verbatim. We all take a bit of this and a bit of that to make our own business model unique.

Speaking of principles of marketing, there is really only one that you need to understand and follow slavishly: the market comes first.

People fail because they start with what seems to them to be a good idea and then go looking for an audience. That way lies madness. The High Street is littered with empty shops that failed because their owners followed a dream and backed their own 'great idea'. Online it is even worse. The cost of entry is so low and the ill-conceived advice to 'follow your passion' so widespread that failure is almost guaranteed.

Success comes from first finding a hungry market (not an 'interested market' or a 'curious market', they need to be starving hungry and ready to pay to feed that hunger) and then tapping in to THEIR passion. If it happens to be a subject you are interested in too, all the better, but that's a secondary consideration.

So, to get back to your original question, it is vanishingly unlikely that anyone can put you on a path to guaranteed success. The best we can do is guide you towards a smorgasbord of strategies, ideas, methods and tactics that have proven to be successful (in their own context) and hope that you will learn the most valuable lesson that an Internet marketer can discover: how to assess opportunity according to your own personal ability to make it work.

          Riffing on this bit...

There are generally two types of "hungry" market.

First is the "desperate buyer" markets. These are the classic health, wealth and relationship markets. People are in pain of some kind and desperately want a solution.

Second is what I've tagged "obsessive buyer" markets. These are people with a burning passion for something, be it a hobby, sport, game, vocation, whatever. The truly obsessed tend to buy just about anything related that they can get their hands on. Case in point, my brother could probably open a pro shop for left-handed golfers from his apartment; I've got a good start on a fishing tackle shop in my garage.

The common characteristic of both markets is that they have both the means and the motivation to at least attempt to buy the answer to their pain or the scratch for their itch. Don't try to sell into markets without the ability to buy.

Clarity is a HUGE part of IM success. I hope this post brings some clarity. It's so simple when you know it -- and darn difficult when you don't! I owe my mentors a world of thanks for bringing this clarity.

IM is actually pretty simple: you can sell only one of two things:

    1. Products
    2. Services

    That's it!

And selling products or services online happens in the same basic way for everyone, no matter what they're selling:

    Traffic > Opt-in page > Autoresponder series (or e-zine) > Sales page

That's it! It's just that simple. (We IMers tend to overcomplicate things.)

But no matter what your niche is, or whether you're selling a product or a service, do you know what your business model is?

A business model is the framework or skeleton of your business. Essentially there are three types of online business models:

    1. Membership-based model

A membership-based business model allows you to build a community of people (your members) who are as passionate about your subject as you are. Your membership fees can be monthly or annual, but either way, you're building recurring, passive income.

There are a lot of resources and information out there to help you build a membership-based business if you're interested in doing this.

    2. Product-based model

Selling products allows you to maximize your time and effort by selling items over and over again. This can be hard goods or it can be information products. Information marketing is it's own business model under the product-based model. Information marketing allows you to take your brain to the bank by creating a product ONCE based on what you know and selling it over and over again.

Affiliate marketing falls under both models. You can choose to market either products or services as an affiliate.

    3. Service-based model

Selling services can be great for 1) generating quick cash (as in the case of article writing or video producing) and 2) establishing your expertise and getting testimonials.

However, in the long run, your goal should be to offer services at a PREMIUM. The biggest advantage of IM is LEVERAGE. You're able to leverage your time, money and expertise exponentially online. We all have just 24 hours each day. Time to get ruthless about what you expect for those hours you spend in IM each day. Expect more of yourself and more from your business friends, clients, partners, etc.

What results are you getting for those hours you spend online each day? Ultimately, your services should be at the bottom of your funnel and cost the most since they involve your time and personal attention. (We all have a limited amount of time each day.)

The fun (and confusion) comes in with all of the endless mix-and-match possibilities of the above models. If you're just starting or still struggling to make money, keep it simple:

    Pick just ONE!

    1. Pick ONE niche. (Something you're interested in and know something about.)

    2. Pick ONE target market for your product or service. (Who will buy what you're offering? The more specific you are, the more you narrow it down, the more successful you'll be.)

    3. Pick ONE business model.

Now that you're clear about what business you're in, FOCUS! (And stop buying any info not related to your niche and target market, period!)

    F -- Follow
    O -- One
    C -- Course
    U -- Until
    S -- Successful

And remember: build a list, Build a List, BUILD A LIST!

In IM, it's easy to put the cart before the horse. Take a deep breath, step back and consider what type of business you REALLY want. Don't worry about getting traffic or buying that expensive traffic product until you know 1) what your business model is, 2) what niche you're in and 3) WHO your target market is!

Successful business people will tell you that MARKETING is more than half the effort that's needed for success anyway. So pick a niche, target market and business model. Then spend most of your time and effort marketing it.

If you DON'T have a solid plan or system, THAT'S when it's hard. A good system will shave YEARS (and save you big $$$) off of your learning curve

That's why I recommend investing in at least one good, comprehensive IM course (or mentor who will give you such a system) instead of jumping from one $37 e-book to the next. A lot of people here complain about not being able to make any money. But neither are they willing to invest in their business. (Buying a random bunch of $37 e-books doesn't count.)

The best thing I ever did was invest in a comprehensive IM course aimed at REAL business owners, not just other IM wannabes. Yes it was $1500. (It's no longer available.) But it was truly some of the best A-Z IM info I ever bought. Everything else I've learned (from the $37 e-books) since has simply been plugged into this system.

My two best recommendations for phenomenal IM training programs are Ali Brown's Elevate program (ElevateBizTraining.com) and Jeff Walker's Product Launch Formula (ProductLaunchFormula.com)

Get a solid plan or system and then work the plan!

    Hope this helps!

Michelle, this was a truly inspirational post for me. Clarity is literally what I needed. Amazing advice for someone who has always been a rabbit in the headlights.

I now need to find a solid path to success, and work as hard as possible down it.

choose a niche-->find something to promote-->Shoot videos-->build a youtube channel-->put a link in the description-->get a blog-->put your videos on your blog-->get eyeballs on the blog posts-->get an autoresponder so you can start building a list

Get started with that, and then just start trying stuff, learning, reading the forum, seeking out mentors, find webinars to hop on by checking out other marketers (there are tons every week)

Just get going with some content and do something every day to further your business.

take action-->learn-->take better action-->see if it works-->change your approach of it doesn't-->do that every day-->don't quit

Internet marketing is SIMPLE but it's NOT easy.

There are MANY variables to take into account to be successful.

You must have a big enough reason to succeed, and be willing to put in work!

There is no such thing as push button, or get rich over night.

A REAL business takes time to build, and you must focus and cut out the wrong people.

If you are determined to make it , and willing to never quit, you cannot fail!

Keep in mind the big picture you are trying to achieve but focus only on the current hurdle that stands in the way of your progress to the next hurdle.

Do not try to remove all the perceived hurdles in one go, as you will only overwhelm, confuse and frustrate yourself.

    You really surprised me, here!

You've been a member for 2 years, have a three-figure number of posts, and have started off over 40 threads here asking for specific information/advice about internet marketing issues.

I've replied, myself, in more than 25% of them - sometimes at some length and in quite some detail.

So have many others, of course.

I'm just a little taken aback, after all the information and help that's been offered to you here, to see you saying that you're a complete newb with no knowledge. You've already asked about lots of very specific IM-related things. I don't know quite what to say.

I'm just a little taken aback, after all the information and help that's been offered to you here, to see you saying that you're a complete newb with no knowledge. You've already asked about lots of very specific IM-related things. I don't know quite what to say.

      Newbie threads don't, at all.
      Hi Alexa,

Just to clarify I have been in a bad place over the last few years, wont go into it, just had my head up my arse and wanted to start a fresh, with my new found positive self who i believe in.

I do appreciate the value that you added to the previous threads of which im embarrassed.

I am truly grateful of the knowledge you passed on, an one of my current goals (of which im half way through), was to disect the value of my former threads, of which i totally misused with the wrong mindset.

And the title of the thread was a ploy, to attract more attention to the thread, i just wanted to be a little different from the average newb asking for help question.

Its not the newbie threads that make some peoples blood boil...but its probably the questions keep asked over and over and over again till death without even try to hit the search button within this forum. Just sayin...

I dont know exactly what you wanna do but let me tell you that you need to start from the very beginning and study everything by yourself and become knowledgeable.

There's no "map" unless of course you have the money to pay a REAL mentor that can "give" it to you. Successful and famous mentors charge from $3k to $10k and even more.

Nobody owns you anything and as you start its HARD WORK. You'll need to work as hell at first because nobody is gonna build a successful online business for you. ONLY YOU.

Having said that, i can tell you one thing you should really start focusing on, its "list building". If you study and learn everything about this topic you can make a very good income from it plus after you mastered this topic you can expand your knowledge in many others like product creation, affiliate marketing, build jvs... etc... all is linked together in a way or another.

Learn how to become wealthy with list building.

There's something in particular you wanna know?

Check out some of the forums here. There's plenty!
I'd start off with some books like scientific advertising
and check out amazon and get some books on the subject.

In Internet Marketing , the phrase , "what would you do if you had to start again with nothing more than a laptop and an internet connection"

Well I can't go into the reasons why but 8 months ago me and my family found ourselves having to do just that.

After taking a massive blow to my head I am now left with slight brain damage ,

We had to move home , change names , yep I think you know what I am talking about?????

6 weeks ago I started again , I am borrowing a laptop , I have no credit card , no debit card , no internet (fixed) no identification until it is changed

    So when I started I had £32

    1: Bought 1 weeks laptop hire £8
    2:Hired Internet dongle on 02 £7
3urchased pre paid visa card £2.95
4:signed up with mail monkey £1
    5:Bought a months hostgator £3
    6:Big jar of nescafe £4.83
    7:Bought a domain name 1.99

Week 1 earnings £))))))))))))))))000000 BIG FAT ZERO
    Week 2 Earnings £72
    Week 3 Earnings £162
    Week 4 Earnings £391
    Week 5 Earnings £176
    Week 6 Earnings £428

YES I have worked night and day , but earnings were from

Affiliate income Clicksure , they give you a payoneer card
    3 Flipped Sites ,
My own Recipe site-----sold a smeg fridge from it
    2 x dating sites
1 x local domain name sold to a wedding shop
I did it by first building , promoting through you tube and pinterest

There is no special ingredient , my advice is be creative with what you have , never ever never ever ever take anything for granted.

The truth is before our problems 8 months ago I was doing well , I worked with some really big names , but now I am not even allowed to contact them , Guru is a B.S word , no such thing , affiliate marketing is full of crooks so keep your eyes open.

Work hard-work hard and work even harder and if you don't get there part time within 7 months give it up ,

    Last bit of advice

set your self a budget each month and if you find you havn't got the money to pay for something DONT BORROW IT.

Before all this happened we were good , I worked 12 hours a day for 4 days and had 3 days off , earnings all together were about £6k per month

    was good stuff

Hey there! I agree. We all deserve this shot! I started off like you, googling what to do?! Ah, I know, stressful. But no, seriously, I goggled and found extra weekly income online or the work from home net. This sites offer a load of good AP you can join and get started with as a IM.

Then, you can post your questions after signing up and becoming acquainted with what you'll be IM.

This is a really good thread for newbies. There have been a lot of super solid answers! I really liked the post from Michelle!

For me, I first started making money as an affiliate. I was lucky enough to work directly with a more experienced marketer who showed me the ropes and got me started. The hardest lesson I had to learn was not to blow off an opportunity just because it didn't appear to make that much money. I remember one project we worked on as affiliates was for a new video game. The commission was low and I remember writing articles and doing all this work and being frustrated because I didn't see how it would make enough money to justify the work to get ranked before the launch. However, that "silly" campaign actually ended up making MORE than another campaign we did for the launch of digital product that we had projected would make a lot more money.

Now, obviously, that is just one small example. The thing I learned was that it is baby steps. One successful campaign after another. And if you have one that flops, it's ok, just keep moving. You'll get there if you keep trying.

Now I have a few sites that run on their own and make a stable stream of income and allow me to focus on my true passion, which is writing.

You're in a great place to learn and grow. Just don't get distracted!

      Best of luck!

Welcome, although I see you're not new to the forum. I'm interested in why you chose affiliate marketing? There's no doubt a lot of money can be made there, but I'd recommend against it for "newbs", just because it takes a LONG time to really learn the ropes and start seeing those first dollars roll in (and as any experienced Warrior will tell you, the first dollars are the greatest motivation you can get to keep working at your goals).
I definitely have some bias in here, since most of my income comes from Kindle (as well as ecommerce sites that I run), but I'd recommend Kindle Direct Publishing for getting started making money online for many reasons.
For one, it's a huge market and you can make lots of money if you stay at it, especially if you build up a fanbase (which can eventually lead to publishing contracts and bigger things). This also means it's easy to see your first check roll in, which as I said before, is a great motivator.
Secondly, it's passive income which is one of the most attractive features for me. Basically, if you're unfamiliar with passive income it's income that you make from work you did before (and it keeps coming in). In the Kindle case, that means that you write an article, book or report once and you keep getting income from sales. This summer I spent the afternoon of two days preparing a 21 day report on online business and it's hovering around 2000 book sales a month. Sales taper off eventually for most books, but often times they will continue for years and you'll keep getting checks in the mail.
You don't even need to actively write books, you'll find as an internet marketer you'll be writing a lot of content and spending a day or two compiling some of the things you've written into a good report or guide on a subject.
If you need any help, feel free to PM me.

    Hi,

What I would suggest is a coach or mentor. Wish I had gotten one sooner. I wasted soooo much time. If you are serious about this business, then don't waste time with the next best thing that comes down the pike like SNO (shiny new object). You need direction and focus. Starting out with a Kindle book is not a bad idea, however, you are still going to have to spend some money.
    Good luck with your decision.

  • Hi,

Howabout signing upto affiliate programs to promote their products and earn commission from sales you bring ? You'd have to be good at SEO to promote the links though so you get good ranking on Google and I might be able to forward you in the right direction on how to become good at that.
PM me if you're interested. Ok ?
Same goes for anyone else but don't forget to mention this post just incase I forget about it as I am always busy programming my own automation tools for them to hunt me customer leads on auto pilot and that means I'm busy but not too busy.

Build a list... find some offers, test them and choose the ones that break-even or make a profit. Then leverage that and keep building your list - using a good sales funnel of course.

Like everyone says, there's plenty of advice in this forum and join the WAR ROOM. I've found stacks of helpful and free stuff in there...

Everything is here for you... now it's up to you. But one thing is certain, there is no magic button or short-cut, only better ways to do things. So educate yourself. Read, read, read and take action... and keep a strong, successful mindset at all time.

    Good Luck!
