Pointers on the art of the upsell?

I'm about to launch my 3rd ebook in the Dog Niche. First sale went pretty good, second one was a flop. I've tried to do upsells with both. First one did pretty good, but I think it was more of downsell maybe?? Original book was 14.99 and up/downsell was 4.99. Does anyone have any tips for figuring out good upsell strategies?

Thanks!

A good one I always use is to create urgency. This makes the potential buyer anxious that they may miss out if they act now. This technique aims to skip the deliberation where people often think themselves out of a purchase.

    Hope this helps.

one thing to think about too is perceived value of your product. if it is only $15 and then a $5 downsell then it is probably a lower perceived value.

I had a friend that had a product that normally sells on the market for $5 but took a unique angle to break into the market. at $5 no one bought, so he raised the price. no one bought still. After raising the price several times he found that $25 was actually the right price for his product because people perceived the product differently.

obviously the value has to be there but just some food for thought
