Aweber spam subscribers

I get lately several spam emails over new subscribers which enter over an AWeber form.

They email a bunch of gibberish and stuff which don't make sense wit links.

I used single opt in but switched now to double.

Did you face something similar those days?

Can I add a captcha to an AWeber form in a HTML widget at my WP blog?

I'm using 1shoppingcart, and I did have the same problem. It really freaked me out to get those weird subscribers.

First, there was a wave of subscribers that were obviously spammers.

And then, there were ones that looked quite legit though almost too legit. They used regular first names and then email addresses with those names in them. I didn't figure out they were fake until they all bounced.

So disappointing. I thought i had finally attracted a lot of traffic, but alas, it wasn't the case.

I did end up using a captcha form (1shoppingcart provides that option), and it has pretty much eliminated both groups of spam subscribers, so I would suggest you do that as well. I'm sure Aweber has a way to do it.

    Good luck.

Good to see (or bad) that it's not me.

What the heck those morons win with that BS?

Never mind, will check captcha inside the AWeber form, never saw that one till now.

      Thanks

    1. Use the honeypot to catch them, and then redirect them to malware site to teach those idiots a lesson.
    2. Post a big warning at the top of subscribe form (something like: "Spammers will be reported to the police", or "Spammers will have to pay a 10.000$ fine", or "I'll break your bones, if you spam me", etc.)
    3. Use dynamic captcha.

I've used an autoresponder for those who were caught in my honeypot. In that auto message I wrote the stuff from chapter 2 and guess what? No more spammers. Well, at least not that much.

    Good luck!

As long-time Aweber user, I've never seen any facility for adding captcha - Just searched their knowledgebase and nothing came up. To be sure, raise a support ticket with them I'd suggest.

Switching to double opt-in should help to cut down on the spam sign-ups as at least now the email address has to be confirmed.

In my experience it won't stop them completely though they are usually pretty easy to spot - for example when you issue out a broadcast and receive auto replies containing junk - and weed out.
