I joined this forum on July 5th and am completely lost.
I stumbled upon this forum by being a fan of particular person and doing a search about him on the internet. Simply, I read a post of his in this forum and joined. I was totally clueless that he is an internet marketer.

I have read some inspiring and exciting things here. Yet, at the end of the day it all sounds like a foreign language.
Really, it's like I'm looking through a dirty window. I see partial but not fully. My vision and understainding is cloudy. It's painful. I want to participate and not just be a spectator.

What would you recommend? How can I learn more about internet marketing and options that are available? I don't understand a lot of the terminology used on this forum. How does one learn the basics in order to be able to make an intelligent decision of answering the question, "Is internet marketing for me?"

Is there a course I should take? A book to read?
I don't own a business. How does one learn about the different types of ventures available in this type of marketing?

I appreciate you taking the time to read this and any response you provide to help me understand is hugely appreciated.

LOL, I don't understand a lot of the terminology either.

Karen, what do you want to do with yourself? Do you like to sell things or create your own things? Do you have a job now? Do you like the job you have now? Are there ways to make it better? Do you have any hobbies you are a pro at?

IM is not for everyone, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy what is going on here. Should you decide you'd like to do IM, then you'll only need to narrow down on what aspect you'd like to pursue.

When you see a term you are not familiar with, simply google it. Google to your hearts desire.

    Hi Karen!

I just want to tell you that I perfectly understand how you feel. Internet Marketing can be overwhelming and it's going to require time for any information you gather to sink in. We've all been there, I remember when I first joined I was afraid of making one simple reply to any given post of fear of embarassing myself - that was foolish of me of course.

The best thing you can do is read as much as you can on this forum. Listen to what the users have to say, read their blogs, follow their advice, but more importantly - have patience and let all the information sink in.

    Good luck

      Hi Karen,

      Welcome to the WF!

Internet Marketing is indeed an interesting and confusing place!

The very term "Internet Marketing" has at least two distinct meanings.

First it means something like "offering products and services to other people who are trying to make money on the Internet"

Many people get that far and that's it. But there's a broader meaning I like to use... "offering goods and services using the Internet"

Imagine if you could sell stuff on TV and you weren't limited to commercials and infomercials. What if you could write an article about a problem and the solution (your product) and people could read it on TV?

What if you could keep a running record of your adventures in a certain pursuit and people could follow it on TV?

Well the Internet lets you do all that and more.

The Interenet offers many opportunities for marketers to educate and communicate to people. Much of this communication is geared towards offering some product or service. Some if it is called "advertising". Some is called "article marketing". You can also communicate with audio and video.

If I listed any other ways it might just confuse you more so let me simply say, there are all kinds of ways to reach people on the Internet and all of these ways are used to market products and services.

So what does this mean to you? That depends.

What's your background? What are your hobbies? What do you want to tell the world?

Your best be is to start where you are and think about where you want to go.

I just posted one of those "light bulb moments" that came to me recently...

It's not the results - it's the process.

I never read Big Mike's manifesto, but I've read a lot of his posts. I can tell you he's one of my favorites here (Mike, don't let your greek head get swelled). He'll tell you straight and with clarity. Plus he's a good guy. So if you haven't read it, I'd say start there.

By all means ask questions when you don't understand something. Lots of people are willing to help.

      God bless,

      Andy
