31 Key Takeaways - Personal Branding for Entrepreneurs / Product Owners...

Went to a Marketing / Personal Branding seminar (with lots of upsells - what else is new) sometime back. I can't recall how much I paid for it.

I recently found the notes I took for the half day seminar. Just wanted to digitalize the notes before I threw it away. So I wrote a blog post about it. I admit it is rather messy - but it was quite long ago and I did not bother to re-organize it when I got back :-(

Anyway, just sharing the notes here - just thought some of you may find this of value in your IM journey...

This will definitely add value to any entrepreneurs or product owners looking to brand themselves. Enjoy!

You are as successful as YOU make yourself, irrespective of what relationships you have.

    2. First to market is going to be extremely important. You must take action.

First to market is NOT extremely important. You can quite often learn from the mistakes of others who preceded you.

    3. There is always an audience for you.

Not for a shit product or service there isn't. Or possibly you're right . . the audience that derides you when you fail.

    4. If you want to be with the best people in the world, be their best customers.

Why would you want that? You're SELLING, not ass licking.

    5. Your mistakes in life are your most valuable asset.

No they're not. Your most valuable asset is your knowledge. You can learn by mistakes, but you can't progress without knowledge.

    6. Business is about helping people.

Business is about making money, and if you help people at the same time then fine. If you want to help people without making money then become a carer on $10 an hour.

    7. Give until your customers think you are crazy. Focus on customer’s results.

You give when you KNOW you'll get a return. If you keep giving needlessly then you'll go bust, and your customers WILL think you're crazy. It's the value of your main products/services that matter, not how much you try to bribe customers with loads of freebies.

    8. Your first training / workshop will likely be with friends and family.

If you've got an ounce of grey matter then it will be with an expert in the field you're trying to break into. His/her views are a lot more valuable than your family/friends, who inevitably will pat you on the back regardless.

    9. People don’t buy information – they buy into systems.

People want to buy WHAT WORKS, regardless of whether it's information, systems, or a magical singing flute.

    10. Have a clear goal for what you want to achieve in 1 year and 3 years. Eg. 1 year – 6 figures, 3 years – 7 figures

You rarely achieve what you target, particularly in IM. To set a goal of a 6 figure income in the first year is a recipe for depression . . . unless you've got one hell of an offer.

    11. A global brand is built on results.

A global brand is built on marketing and ultimate demand. Many a product has flopped in the initial stages of exposure, but gone on to conquer a global market with progressive and impressive marketing.

    12. You head into your future. We live from our future. What is your future?

Love to answer the question if it were in Queen's English.

    13. Be a social entrepreneur.

Any type of entrepreneur can be successful. Since when did "social" corner the market?

    14. People will bring you to share your message
Inspire and serve others and you will get there.

    See answer, *12.

    15. The most successful people in the world are excited to engage and help people.

The most successful people in the world simply make money by the efforts of their own intelligence and foresight. Engaging and helping people doesn't come into it. If someone needs or wants something, they'll buy it, regardless of whether the seller is courting them and smoothing their collar.

    16. Everything that happens in business that is valuable happens with people.

I should think so, unless animals have been taking us for fools all these years.

    17. It takes about 6-8 months for a new brand to take place.

A new brand can rocket within a day or a week. Viral marketing says so. At the other end of the scale, a new brand can never take off, because it's either not marketed correctly, or just plain crap.

    18. You can have excuses / reasons or you can have results.

As there's no other option/outcome, it doesn't take Einstein to come up with that one.

    19. Video is how people want to interact with you.

Video is how a small percentage of people want to interact with you.

    20. Stage time = Wealth time

Stage time is just that . . stage time. The most wealthy and successful people actually shun the spotlight.

    21. Money is a byproduct of serving people.

Money is a by-product of serving desire, not people.

3 Positions that Make Least Money:
    - Idea
    - Manager
    - Doer

    - An innovative idea makes the MOST money, if marketed correctly.
    - A manager can make the MOST money if he controls a huge corporation.
    - A doer can make the MOST money, if he/she does it right.

    22. Brand – Relationship with customer
    - Producers / Services

    See answer, *12.

    23. If you want to make $ globally – you must think globally.

You think strategy and marketing. Nothing else.

    24. When you try to serve everybody – you serve nobody => Being clear who to work with

Google serves almost everybody as a search engine. Does that make then a nobody?

3 Positions that Makes Most Money:
    - Owner
    - Leader – innovative and learding the rest
    - Closer

    - An owner often makes NO money, especially if he/she is trading while technically insolvent, as many often do. Saying you own a business means nothing.
    - A leader often makes NO money. You can lead a teal of one or two, does that mean you make the most money? No.
    - A closer often makes NO money, just a survivable income. If closers made the most money, half the working population would set up in competition.

    25. Experts are experts because they say so.

Experts are experts because they KNOW so.

    26. Fastest growing business – information business.

The fastest growing business is ANY business with the right leadership and product/service.

    27. Stop being a perfectionist – become a “progression”-ist

There's nothing wrong with being a perfectionist. Get it right in all respects and the business will follow.

    28. Being smart and being good at what I do DOES NOT equal success.

It does if you've got those qualities, but stop wasting time with stupid posts like this.

    29. Personal branding is how we are designing
    - Your story of your life is your biggest asset.
Its not about the stuff that we are selling – its about the story.
    Personal Branding
    - Associate you with a trend
    - Attracts right people and right opportunity
Positioning – Public speaking vs Profit speaking
    Packaging – Putting it together
Clear – Who to serve? What is your message?

No-one gives a shit about the story of your life. They care about what you can do for them.

It IS all about the stuff we are selling. Without a quality product or service you've got zilch.

    30. Do not confuse exposure with making money
Do not confuse movement with achievement

    Exposure + marketing + exclusive product/service = money

Movement in business and sales = achievement

    31. To make money = put your path to money

    Haha nicely written HD.

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment. I owe you lunch I guess for your time and dedication in responding to the original post.
As I mentioned before it is taken in a seminar I attended - so its basically just a shorthand of the content presented there.

    But good points nevertheless...
