Where to find new and successful websites

I often like to model myself after someone that is already doing something right, but put my own spin on it. This beats recreating the wheel. Where do you look to find new websites that are doing well?

The best way to find websites that are doing well is to reverse engineer their paid marketing campaigns.

This can either be on the Search Networks or direct media buys.

When you find someone that has been spending over $100k/month in advertising consistently for the past few months, you better believe they're successful

    (or completely crazy, haha!)

To do this, I personally start off using SEMRush to gather intelligence on who the biggest spenders are on Google & Bing for hyper-competitive keywords.

Once I have a couple of their domains...

I'll dig deeper and see what else they're doing outside Search, by using Quantcast, Compete, WhatRunsWhere, AdBeat and Follow.net

In about 48 hours, with this process, I can always find out who the most profitable players are in any industry, deconstruct their entire funnel, product paths and lead gen campaigns.

Then... it's just a matter of putting your website and approach together that starts with what is already "proven" and simply make yours better.

    Then scale.

Check out the top100 sites based on alexa ranking. Most of them are social sites or sites with a social component.

I would recommend you to browse through Flippa.com - buying and selling websites marketplace. You can search for websites that were sold successfully.

I am not so sure about it.

Flippa is full of garbage websites. Most of the sites on Flippa are garbage in my opinion.

Yes there are many garbage sites there but not all of them. Just filter them out by the age, income and look only at those that were sold. You will be able to find something normal for sure.

It's just a matter of networking online to find good sites. Find one very successful internet marketer and join their email list and most times you will learn of other successful sites via their daily/weekly newsletter. These site owners will regularly joint venture with other successful site owners and that will give you entry to their site. That's my technique, hopefully it will benefit you.

I like looking at Flippa. But you need to drill down to find the bigger sites that were started a few years back. These are the interesting ones.

Avoid stuff sold by hero worshipped gurus like Empire Flippers. Has anyone here ACTUALLY READ THEIR COPY?

Hmmm... Worshipped Gurus? Not quite...we donk stuff up all the time and there are plenty of people that don't dig us.

BTW - what's wrong with our copy? (Admittedly, I can't write sales copy worth a damn...but wasn't sure what you meant here, exactly)
