I Want to Create a Website, but don't know which place is best.

I have an English School and want to start advertising. I heard that website domains are free, however I am new to the web design and don't know what the fist step is. I don't want to pay anyone because I feel that I can design it myself with the right steps. How do you get around to it? Where do I go?

If you do a search for "free hosting forums" that would be a good place to start. I do want to point out that you may want to switch to paid hosting later, but there is no reason you can't get something up and running for next to nothing. The domain may cost you $7 if you want to own your own.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

There are many free website builders on the internet that are free. Just do a search on google. I learned by just checking out how the html code looks. You can also find free templates and modify them according to your needs.

I wouldsuggest not going with anything free. Domains and hosting are cheap and you have more control and support there when you need it

    POWWEB is not bad,
I've using it for quite a while.

It only costs me less than $50 a year,

    and it is quite stable,

    so I recommend it.

For free, start with a blog at blogspot.com, owned by Google. It is easy to understand how to set up a blog there, and you can easily just put up one page. In the sidebar you can put a paypal button for people to prepay for English classes. That's what I would do if I needed to keep expenses down.

a large majority of the websites around today are actually wordpress sites...you can get a free wordpress blog from wp then just find a theme to suit.

If you want to make money from your site, you will need to host it yourself and for that hostgator is your best option.

  • It may be a good idea to start with a blog at blogger.com or wordpress, they are both free.

On the other hand host4profit or hostgator are both good for paid options. I have been with host4profit for a long time and very satisfied.

For free I would recommend weebly.com. You can do all sorts of things with weebly including redirects and no cost for hosting. You can create multiple pages with a variety of templates.

For paid I use godaddy, hostgator, xsite pro 2 and wordpress for great results.

Do not use a free domain name. There are companies that will offer you a free or discounted domain name when you use their hosting service.

The problem with these kinds of deals is they give control of your business domain to one company. You do not want that. If you violate any of their terms of service, they can seize your domain and shut you down. Chances are at that point you will never get your domain back, and your business could be hurt forever.

You can get a domain for about $10 US per year, and hosting somewhere else for around $5 to $7 US per month. Keep them split apart and you can change hosts easily if you violate any of their terms.

Wow, Mike thanks for sharing that link with everybody. I may not be the op, but I can use the information as well. I just want to suggest to the op though, that it is a good idea to do a google search on any company you are considering on using and check out their reputation. You got a lot of great suggestions in this thread, good luck in narrowing it down.

Hey I would suggest either blinkweb.com, webs.com (formerly freewebs) or weebly.com. I am currently using blinkweb because it is very simple to use. I have used the others but I am so used of really using blinkweb for almost everything. lol. Hope this helps.

A lot of great suggestions have been made already but if for any reason you are still not sure you can use myfreewebsitebuilder to build the website (it comes with many website templates you can choose from) but you would have to get hosting so your site can be uploaded onto the internet.

Hmm Well i went straight for the Iweb hosting its for 10 years 600Gb space unmetered bandwidth and unlimited domain names.
All you ever need and for 10 years forward lol.
And you can even resell hosting.
only catch seems to be you have to pay all 10 years at once about 200USD.LOL
i have made that amount back already by providing hosting for others.
