Why I Had a Good Sales Day Today

I don't know if any of you are like me, but sometimes I have a great string of days where there are lots of sales, and of course it makes my job worthwhile, but then as I go back and study the statistics (ex. analytics), there are some periods where I just can't explain why I did so well. I didn't send any email out that week. I wasn't running a new advertising campaign. Traffic wasn't spiking. But sales were up nicely!

I assume some of it may be chance, and some of it may be word of mouth, but I can't always explain it.

Have you had days or periods like this where you just want to know why?

Yes last week I had a string of 4 days where my sales were incredible. I had a huge spike of traffic as well for some unknown reason. This wasn't the only reason sales went up but epc went up as well.

Sometimes you also see a big spike from search engines, and you have to ask:
Were more people searching that day, or did google send you more of the traffic from the searches?

These short-term peaks and troughs have always existed and I'm sure always will.

I find that if I look at things over a longer period (one month in my case) they're amazingly consistent and have been for a long time. I'm talking specifically about visitor value which is the NUMERO UNO statistic in my book.

I always advise new people to watch and *really* understand their numbers to try to find this consistency because that's the one thing that will give them the confidence that they're on the right track.

    Cheers,

    Neil

There was a point on my site where google had been consistent for a few years, and then all of the sudden the traffic from searches doubled and stayed there. There is something I did from an SEO standpoint that will remain one of my big "secrets". It's totally white hat, but made a huge difference for me.

  • I have had many days like this and it bewilders me. I look at traffic data and things don't make sense, but don't get me wrong I'll take it as it comes.

PS -- excellent job on the sales!

I had a "good sales day" today of sorts. Not a LARGE dollar amount of sales. Just one sale in fact. For only $20.

      Why was it good?

Because it was the FIRST SALE on a new e-book site I made, and put online in the past ten days!

Small step, I know. But this is all relatively new to me. So I'm celebrating

(Details: It's for an e-book product I wrote myself, and am selling through through a cheap method (paypal + e-junkie), using a mailing list. With aweber, hosting, etc. the total fixed costs are about $40-50 a month, and the product sells for $19.95, so I make over $19 pre-tax profit per sale. So there's profit potential if I can get that sales rate up.)

Congrats on your sale. If you sell one every 10 days, you make money it seems, so you are already at that rate in the first 10 days.

Must be a good week I had a great day yesterday and the best bit was that I spent the weekend at our new property investment house cleaning and then came home and logged on to see some great sales - now that's what I like to see
