Hi Warriors, The past week was most frustrating time ever since I have been marketing online. I want YOU to get alerted of this and won't have to go through the pain I have... The Story: Last week, I checked one of my websites which was marked by Google as "Potentially Dangerous Website"... I was shocked and yelled "What the heck is going on..." I checked with my hosting company which said that malicious coding were added. I told my webhosting company to restore the system to an earlier date. However, this did not solve the issue, as it was unknown when the malicious codes were added. I was told to change the passwords of all my websites and remove the coding asap. Fortunately, the web-admin was able to check the codes were added on May 8th and advised me to restore prior to that day. Gosh... all work done during the past 2 weeks were gone! But the thing is, I did not know what caused it... Then I run Norton to check and to my surprise - Norton identified a spyware but it could not delete it! I ran to an IT vendor and inquired about it. I had Norton 2005 on my machine and purchased the renewal subscription, but I was told that N2005 might be old and could not quarantine virus/ spyware. I formatted my machine and reinstalled the latest version of Norton 2009 + internet security. I have to submit to Google and nortify her to recheck and remove the "Potentially Dangerous Sites" mark. Phew, glad that Google was quick! Boy, was I desperate! Hope that you don't have to go through the experience I had. If you have not checked your Anti-virus software, do ensure it's kept up-to-date! A couple of tips for YOU: 1) Use a reputable Anti-virus Software, Ensure it's up-to-date 2) Keep a record of what you do online 3) Backup your stuff regularly If you have any other tips, please share. Peace out, Roy |

Yea, that is a terrible thing to happen. I had this happen to me also. Fortunately, it was on a site that was not important. It's good that at least google is responsive to a recheck.

Bummer! Here are a few tips... 1. Never ftp via ftp. Use SFTP. Do not allow your SFTP program to remember user names and passswords. Cut and paste. 2. Use roboform2go. Read up on it and you'll know why. 3. Keep no sensitive data on your computer. Run it all from a flash USB drive you can pullout when you are not working. There is more. Craig |

4. Buy a Mac. Haven't had a single virus or spyware in over 8 years. Edit: You already touched on this- buy one of those memory sticks, external hard drives, or back-up your stuff to a CD or DVD. (This might not prevent the spread of a virus, but it will prevent you from completely starting over). Sorry that happened to you. Great tips! Grant |
