How To Do Paypal Test Purchase?

Hi all,

I've put up a paypal payment button on my website. I think I've got everything linking correctly but I'm a bit confused as to the part how do I know that the payment has gone through correctly. Is there any way I can check this? So that I can also check that the product has been delivered correctly.

I've heard about the sandbox method but am very hazy about it. I hope some warriors can help me out here.
