How long should I stick?

I started on something 3-4 months ago but till today I've only made a few,few dollars here and there...I'm improving everyday but not getting results I need..

Now,how much is your time worth to you? Should I stick to this or just leave it and try something else??

Really, when I started I thought I'd become average rich guy in a few months, you know after reading those hyped up stuffs from gurus?

yeah, so i think I'm in the middle of nowhere just trying this one thing...I sit on a computer like 16 hours/day and hardly make any return...hardly any money.

please help, would you still stick there or just leave and try something else?

Thanks

    Hi Joshua,

You don't really say what project you are working on, so it is difficult to say whether you should continue or not.

The things to look at are you ahead or behind of your business plan ? Is the project a long term project ? sometimes it can take a business many years to show a profit.

I know here on line we all expect it to be virtually instaneous!

Remember, to build a real business does take time, effort and yes, a few mistakes along the way. The only person who can really decide if it is worth continuing is yourself.

    How old are you?

I ask sincerely.... don't get caught in the I.M. trap..scratching out a misreable existence. Either step it right up....make big money or get offline and get into an offline high paying industry. Don't waste years chasing $10 e-book sales.

Poor souls on this forum that post things like "how can i make $5 per day, etc.." you want to end up like that?

High ticket to business/wealthy, everything else is a struggle.

Without a doubt you could drop 14 of those 16 hours and still get more done if you focus on very specific tasks. Since we have no idea what you're working on, it's hard to determine whether it's a waste of time or not. Chances are that it is, but you may just be approaching it in the wrong way.

    You're not focused.
    You have no plan.
You're killing whatever motivation you have.

You need to sit down and figure out what EXACTLY are your most important tasks - and focus solely on those. There's a big difference between busyness and productivity.

Look up the Pareto Principle - and apply it to what you're currently working on.

    Best of luck.

You say you are improving. If that is the case, draw a graph that represents your improvements over time - you could simply plot income against time. Then extrapolate the curve (project it forward in time). At the point where is rises to the income level you desire, drop a line to the time axis and read the date. That's how long you would need to persist with your current plan

In fact, it is quite a good exercise to do this because you do have to answer the question about whether or not your current plan is going to deliver within a reasonable timeframe. If your plan is not going to work, you should refine it or dump it and find another.

One last thing: ANY plan is very likely to take you a lot longer than a few months to get into decent profit.

I don't know anybody who has been paid for sitting on his/her computer

Tell us more about what you are currently doing or trying to do?

Setup up a monthly plan with targets. Last thing of the day: write down what have you accomplished. First thing on morning: write down what are you going to accomplish today.

  • Hi Joshua P,

3 to 4 months is nothing. How many years does a doctor or a lawer have to study before earning a fraction a month of what some Guru's make in a day? Yet they all took many months before earning any money despite the hype some say to sell their latest product?

Don't believe most of those "how I went from $80,000 in debt to earning $287,942.53 in 11 days crap because most of them are liars selling a worthless scam product. And the few that are telling the truth had already been successful and in business several years.

Depending on what you've been working on, be realistic about it's long term profitability? Do you have a website and have you built a list of targeted prospects who might be interested in what you have created? How much traffic have you created or what other way have you placed targeted prospects in front of what you want them to buy?

Selling is ALWAYS most effective from your own mailing list with whom you have established a relationship with and helped them before asking for their money? Only 2% buy from a great looking website while the rest leave forever so instead of selling, get a list and build a relationship with them first.

Then sell to them. That shouldn't ever take 16 hours a day because it is not the hours you work but what you do in those hours that will make the difference. Clearly what you have been doing isn't working but that doesn't mean the product is neccessarily the problem but what you have been doing is?

The first sign of insanity is to keep doing what you've always been doing and expecting to get a different result. If it doesn't work, try a different approach and sleep more while working less because tiredness doesn't help to improve matters. Have you tried learning from a mentor? It will save you wasted money and time as well as frustration and you will have a daily action plan to follow.

This would depend on so many factors such as:
    · Your age
    · How much time you have to spend on this kind of work
    · How fiscally sound are you?
    · How big is your motivation
    · How badly do you want to make money online
    · The product or service that you are selling
    All the bestRegards

I find that when people are not making money it is because they are missing one of the fundamentals...

Many of us jump in and start trying to make money and have no plan for doing so..

If you are asking yourself if you should quit what you are doing I would say yes..

If you have lost your passion for what you are doing you would be good to put it on the back burner and try building something else.

People always do better work when they are passionate about the work they are doing. In fact it will not feel like work at all.

I would ask myself the question.. Have I put my best effort into this? I find that most of us have no problems lying to ourselves and it may sound funny but ask this question in front of a mirror. Its much harder to lie to your own face.. Try it you will see..

I have a website that is all about internet marketing fundamentals I think that it may help you to review the fundamentals and see if you are missing one.. you can find the site in my sig line below..

Dont get discouraged get motivated.. I have taken sites that set for months because i burnt myself out on them and turned them into great successes..

Sometimes you just need to step back and take a look from a different direction..

    Good Luck

You are not making money because you don't know how to market, not because your thing is not working...

nothing happens when you don't promote... it's not the business you are in that makes you money, it's promoting that does.

Once you get good at it you can pretty much make money out of everything...

Spend your time learning how to sell... not in here though, as very few people know how to sell and we usually neither have time to explain how it's done on forums... nor revel it for free...

aaahh and one more thing... you will NOT become rich in a day... business takes time, money and balls...

I suggest you try for another month or so. Research for more ways on how to improve it and if you still won't get any good results then I guess you could try something else.

It depends. If you enjoy working online then you should definitely have to stick for a longer period of time. 3-4 months is not enough, moreover if you are a newbie. If online work is only one of million options you have and it's not very appealing to you then go and work somewhere else. Maybe you will get a quicker return there.

I would go with a day job so you're not going to completely run out of money. however, you have to be fully committed to something before you're ever going to see any real results.

Here is a site I wish i found earlier on in my IM career that has helped me learn a ton, is all free content, and it is quality content and not the hyped up guru junk that everyone pitches online..

First of all, find out if the method is obsolete... not everything that worked 10 years ago is still viable today. Apart from that, whatever it is that you're trying to do, I'd suggest reducing a lot of that workload and stepping back to evaluate your results.

If the method you're using doesn't live up to your income goals, then you need to study it more before continuing, find out what you're doing wrong and then apply the changes.

I would say if you are making more and more every day then you are onto a good thing.

You should only consider stopping when you are no longer improving and it's not a viable amount of money every day.

You should tell us what you're working on so we can tell you more ;-)

If it's a product advertise it more, if it's a blog go and spread the word (should be possible if done manually up to 16 hours a day!), if it's a service join forums and get affiliates...

As you see it's possible if you're willing to work. You also seem to have the advantage of time, I for example am only able to put in about two hours a day because of my day job.

Good ambition... you sound like me when i first started. But i've learned how to work smarter (much smarter), than harder.

You will either want to do alot of paid advertising, go into a different niche - or both.

Do you have an email newsletter? Whats your subscriber count? What are you selling?
