buying website builder software: what about rights on your site

Dear Warriors,

I have some questions.

Allow me to introduce myself. I am someone who has no clue what internet business is about, or what writing code is about. But.. I'm one of these many people who have the impression they have a BIG idea. So I research, and I ask questions. Don't shoot me for being a Noob

I've been researching how to protect my idea, and have considered hiring a code writer, hiring a web-design company, learning how to write code myself. The design I would do myself.

I learned however that the end-cost would be a whole lot, and unfortunately I don't have the funds yet to invest in a code writer/company for the kind of website I would like to create; nor do I have the time and patience to become a talented code writer.

That's why I have been looking on the net for these company's that offer website builders. The plan would be to start that way, generate revenue if the site idea would be succesfull, and invest that money in a code-writer/company. (Is this the way things could be done?)

Now I do have the following question:

If I would buy a domain name somewhere
And if I would create a website on this domain by buying the software at a website builder site.

Or would the website be totally my possession? If not, would the website where I bought the software to build the website (and use their code), or the website where I bought the domain, have rights on the website? (and so on the revenue?)

Thanks in advance!

    Roeland,

You have not stated what you want the web site to do.

There is a real good chance that there are already websites available for purchase that will accomplish what you're hoping for. Coders and web site programmers can build you a custom site (usually at great expense), but I don't think that's the way to go for your initial foray into Internet marketing as most likely there is a template or site provider that is already selling what you want.

Use the search function in Google and type in the keywords (description of what you want) for the type of site you're wanting and see if something similar already exists. You won't own the underlying "code" that gives the site functionality, but you will own all the content and can move it to a new custom site when you're ready.

If you can explain more about the functionality you're hoping for it will be much easier to help you.

      Thanks for the answer.

Well, I'll try to explain what it should do without giving away the unique thing about it

      1) So it would be a social network, where people can subscribe, and look for other people with whom they could work. All members would be interested in the same kind of work.
      2) The website needs a menu where people could select a certain region going from global -> continental -> national -> regional -> postal code -> detailed map with pin icons of the people in their postal code
      3) So: The website should be able to show them on a map in which region (postal code) they could find a certain number of people with whom they could work together. Each individual is showed on the map (by a common pin icon with the number of people in that region), as living in that postal code region, and is showed in a list below, with a certain order in characteristics to choose (a bit like choosing "price from low to high")
      4) The members would be able to have private chat, mailing, and putting up own 'project folders' with images (able to be seen by other members)

        Roeland,

Here is just one place you can start. It sounds like you're looking for groupware or collaborative software on a web site platform.

Check out these alternatives (links included).

        Good luck,
