Words per minute for average video salesletter?

I'm working on the copy for my first video salesletter, and I was just curious if anyone doing this stuff can give me a ballpark number in terms of words per minute for the average video salesletter? Thanks!

most humans speak 2-3 words per second - for sales presentations you should use variably speeds, faster when you want to give a sense of urgency or action and slower during parts when you want so give the viewer suspense

I've found that overall, i speak about 100-125 words a minute when recording videos. Until a person becomes used to hearing you speak, if you go much faster than that, they have a bit of trouble comprehending.

Regular speech is about 200, but that is with eye contact and gestures to help with comprehension, if you are using a headshot video, your gestures need to be bigger and more emphatic and your facial expressions a bit exaggerated.

Thanks for the replies. That's a lot less than I expected, especially most "gurus" seem to talk pretty fast in their videos and a few of them (Diess, etc.) suggest talking 15-20% faster than normal to convey a sense of excitement, etc. Obviously I'll have to test this for myself, but thanks. If anyone else has any input I'd love to hear it!

Yeah, I do agree with Ryan. You don't want to be too slow and dull otherwise you will put people to sleep. I've sat through plenty of those videos before and they are not fun.

Ryan does have a good presence in his videos. He does have the excitement factor which helps and yes, that comes from talking a little faster and using some good expression.

So why not check out a few of Ryans videos, get the timer out, and see how many words he is doing. It's obviously working well for him.

Tutorial videos are a different story though. You will always want to go a bit slower in those or you will end up with a flooded helpdesk. :-)

Why don't you check out the top video sales pages and clock their speed? Only a few make tremendous sales so go with the best of breed.
