American friends...would you buy from Canadian expert?

Just curious here...would you, an American, purchase an online product/service from a Canadian expert?

Does it also depend on the niche?

Perhaps it wouldn't matter if the product was related to health or making money as these two niches are universal, but what about law, medicine or education? That is, legal, medical and education products/services vary from state to state and country with regards to policy.

Obviously, I am asking for my own 'marketing' reasons. I simply want to get a feel for different opinions.

Thanks

Well, first off, I'm not American... but why wouldn't people buy from you because you are a Canadian?

I obviously can't speak for all Americans, but for me being Canadian doesn't have any impact on my decision to purchase. I look for quality solutions to my problems regardless to the nationality of the producer.

So you simply need to convince me that your solution is genuine and workable. (The voice of 1 American.)

In some topics, no problem at all buying from Canadian, or anyone. With some country or state specific things, I would look for someone who worked there in that location, even if they were originally from somewhere else.

Same. When I look for things I don't check to see if its from another country or not unless its something like food

    I don't think that it's a matter of discrimination.

Rather, I think that some people may prefer certain products/services from an expert who has been educated in their own country/state and provides a product/service that follows the 'rules' of that country or state.

For example, a lawyer in California knows the laws in California better than a lawyer from Quebec. Similarly, a teacher from British Columbia would know that province's curriculum better than the New York State curriculum.

I simply wanted to see if there was another side to this issue.

      I think it depends.

If you're talking about the general knowledge involved (murder is illegal), country of residence wouldn't really matter.

If you're talking current procedure/case law (what are the specific rules for search and seizure in Maricopa County), I'd want a currently practicing lawyer actually defending that type of case in that jurisdiction.

Obviously, I've picked widely divergent examples. But the idea is the same. If the author's origins or residence might make a difference, then yes, that origin/residence might influence my decision. Otherwise, it's so far down the decision tree as to be pretty much irrelevant.

The one exception I've crossed lately is a writer from Quebec who had me reaching for a French/English translator site on almost every page. I quit reading before I finished the first chapter. It's made me a bit leery of Quebecois authors, but not because of where they are...

I don’t know why this is even a question. Of course Americans would buy from Canadians.

In regards to the actual product, it doesn’t matter what it is, they will buy it as long as it is reasonably priced and has value. The shipping would be the biggest hurdle to cross as customs can sometimes hold up packages making the actual business who shipped it look bad.

Nationality has nothing to do here, If you are doing every thing legal you can do better business if you provide quality products and services to people.
Might be some niches where restrictions applies.

It wouldn't matter to me, at all, the nationality of the author of a product, as long as the product wasn't on a subject that differs from country to country. For example, if the product was a health based, "how to cure" type document, then it wouldn't matter; however, if the product was a "how to get health insurance" type document, then it would matter to me because the advice wouldn't be applicable from country to country. Legal based subjects may also differ from country to country causing it, therefore, to make a difference in applicability from country to country.

  • I would I don't care if you are from Canada or Nigeria if you are a solution to my problem I would buy. I have paid money to people in at least a two dozen countries over the years from Pakistan, to Lituania and gurus to for information not just help with my info products.

Yes! I've purchased a course called "17 Easy Ways To Generate Leads And Get New Customers" by an Austrailian marketing expert named "Peter Sun". The best marketing book besides Dan Kennedy's Magnetic Marketing and Bob Serlings "Reverse Marketing" that i've ever seen.
