Does The Existence of An Alexa Rank Mean The Site Has Traffic

Hi Guys,
I want to purchase an expired domain. If it has an alexa rank i.e. even if its 25m, does that mean it has traffic.. no matter how small?

Well, it HAD traffic. No traffic now since it is expired. As for that traffic coming back... expect lots of erosion. Use wayback machine to try and replicate the site's structure and to get an idea of the old content base. For the new site, use original text, of course.

Alexa is also biased towards IT and SEO niches. Warrior Forum has an Alexa a rank of ~179, but it's not website #179 on the web in terms of traffic.

As the poster above says, the wayback machine is your friend.

If your ultimate goal is to procure organic traffic, you want to be careful and check to make sure (as much as you can) that the site was reputable and indexed (not de-indexed) by the big G. I bought a site once that had ticked off G and NOTHING I tried got the big G to reindex it. It had, apparently, been red flagged.

Good Alexa ranking does mean that the sites has traffic. However, remember that alexa ranking can be boosted by sending cheap traffic just to improve alexa rankings.

    Yes, but not necessarily.

It factors in the number of websites
that are linked in to that site - which
is a pretty good indicator that the
    site has very valuable content.

So, yes...in a sense (eventual) traffic.

It's just that their are other factors
    that determine that rank.

Alexa, nonetheless tough, is a very
    reputable source.

Even Alexa claim that any ranking over 100,000 is not very accurate (whatever that means). In my experience 25m would be lucky to get 1-10 visitors a month.
