How Long Do You See Affiliate Marketing Working?

I've been pondering a lot today.

How long do you think clickbank affiliate marketing will actually be viable? Surely there's a point where there's too many affiliates to make decent cash? With more and more people getting used to the internet and looking in to how to make money online, isn't there going to be some kind of impact on us? I'm really excited about finally making some cash with IM, but I'm concerned that if I focus on IM ALONE it could be risky in the long term - what if I become a f***** brilliant clickbanker, only to find that in ten years time I've spent all my time acquiring a skill that isn't worth enough any more?

It just seems almost to good to be true. I've always dreamed of having a job like this since I was a kid.

I'm hoping I'm going to get some replies along the lines of "You're a paranoid fk". That'd be the reassurance I need right now before I focus my efforts on IM.

Affiliate marketing will be there as long as there are marketers who don't want to sell their products themselves

and IM/MMO category will probably only grow in the future as more and more economies are transforming to be information societies.

Even if the "clickbanking" itself would die off, you'd still be left with excellent marketing skills. There really isn't clickbanking skills per se..

    Hi Author14,

As long as people are 'buying' things in ebook format or what not, affiliate marketing companies like 'clickbank' will continue thriving. If the market wants it, the source will be there.

As long as there's an internet there will be people making money marketing Clickbank products. And it's only going to get bigger. About 70 million people are born in the world each year. Tens of millions turning 18 and getting credit cards. Millions with Paypal accounts. And yet, how many customers do you need to make a good living or even a great living? Not that many, in the grand scheme of things!

Affiliate marketing will always be around and I doubt it will ever come close to saturation. Sure, there will be more and more people starting to use the Internet. But that doesn't necessarily mean they will all be affiliates - many of them will create new products and services that affiliates can promote.

I think you're forgetting about the larger group of people - the people in NEED of the products.

Well considering that it's just referring folks to products and services you've used and enjoyed I'd say forever. Regardless of how you label it, it's just word of mouth advertising. Which has been around forever!

Affiliate marketing will always be there, and to be shortsighted and only consider ClickBank products wouldn't necessarily convey the bigger picture.

Nearly every corporate giant in the world offers independent advertisers the opportunity to promote their products and/or services. I have found few large "Brand Name" entities that don't offer an affiliate program, and the ones that don't IMHO are losing sales, and money.

Whether they refer to it as "Webmasters" - "Affiliates" - "Earn Money" or sometimes "Partners" - You can generally find an affiliate program associated to (nearly) every product or service on the planet.

Affiliate Marketing just Makes Good Sense, provided those who promote stay within the guidelines of the TOS agreements, and don't 'mis-represent' the products and services they promote.

Affiliate Marketing in a Win/Win... it's here to stay.

As everyone else said affiliate marketing will always be around, and is not going anywhere anytime soon.

As long as people have a problem, you or someone else can always come up with a solution to it for some money -- and if you are the owner of the product, who wouldn't want make lots of money for free while people promote you're product?

You make the simplistic mistake thinking Clickbank (CB) = affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketing (read: getting a percentage of the sales price; synonym: commission) is way bigger and wider than CB.
If you have the skills and persistence to become a freakin' brilliant MARKETER (not "clickbanker", that's BS... but really, really knowing MARKETING) - then you can make money even if CB closes tomorrow.

Affiliate programs aren't going anywhere for the foreseeable future, but it is a constantly changing landscape. What worked in 2003 isn't optimal for 2013. So what's working in 2013 may return peanuts in 2023. Continued development and project diversification is the key.

Hasn't affiliate marketing died at least 347 times in the last 10 years? Or maybe that's how many emails I have with the title "The DEATH of Affiliate marketing!"

It's not going anywhere... it's a fundamental sales technique. It will only improve and gain more technical depth.
