Are Co-Working Office Space Memberships worth it?

I'm curious what everyone's experiences are with co-working office spaces? In my personal experience it was worth every penny and the roi in productivity, networking and cash ROI has been well worth it.

However, I'm not sure if it is just my particular location or if this is true worldwide. I've been to coworking spaces in San Francisco and Los Angeles but only for a few days and didn't get the same positive experiences as I do here in Chiang Mai, Thailand. It's also 5x the price in those cities.

It could be because everyone here in already successful enough to escape the 9-5 and travel, or because people here are all wanting to meet new friends since we're all away from our home countries. How has your experiences been with coworking spaces in your home town?

I find that it helps just being around other people.. but not as comfortable or productive as working from the home office. Its a great social out though and good for business.

SuperKC, can I ask you how you stay motivated when working from your home office? For me I end up getting ultra lazy if I'm too comfortable in my home office, even if it is a separate dedicated room. I do agree with you on the social aspect being one of the best things about co-working spaces though, it feels like you're part of a team instead of a solopreneur.

I struggled with it for a long time. Spend half my day screwing around and getting nothing done.. you blink and 6 months has gone by and the only thing you have done is checked some email, blown a few hundred grand, and isolated every business contact you have. I think everyone copes with it different but for me its a balance of my vices and work -- I offset my motivation with gambling. If I want to go blow $500 that night.. I work untli I make $1000 in revenues.. and when I do it then its a treat, or I set INSANE goals.. like if I just finish this one project that will take me 3 hours of hard labor I'll give myelf a grand to go blow at craps.. and that works sometimes. But generally speaking.. if you want to get motiviated.. gallon of super cold pepsi.. put yourself in a closet with the lights out, small book light, pen and paper.. no internet.. don't do a damn thing for the first hour.. and as the rest of the world stops cluttering your mind watch the creativity flow.

One of the most helpful free apps I installed when I was trying to focus to write an eBOok was Work Rave. Workrave

I set it to lock my computer for 2 minutes every 45 minutes. I'd take a break, walk around, get some air or water, do some pushups, whatever. The best thing about it was half of the time I would be in the middle of doing something such as checking facebook instead of working. So it put me back on track.
