Default Does Anyone Actually Enjoy Coding?

So does anyone here actually enjoy coding HTML, CSS, etc?

If so, please identify yourself.

(I know that I once asked this in the old forum... but that thread is now long gone!)

I'm not a programmer. But I do enjoy HTML and CSS coding.

Well, it does give me some challenges. Haha!

I enjoy "creating" things, and making things work. To that end, there are times that I enjoy coding up some new ideas I have.

Not so much HTML/CSS stuff, but more the "nuts and bolts" of websites that perform some cool functions.

But, I don't enjoy the stuff that just has to get done - thank goodness for those that do!

I'm not typically a big fan of HTML/CSS, however, I love programming PHP/MySQL/javascript/AJAX/etc - I get immense satisfaction out of seeing things come together and work as one (when they work! ) I've been programming for well over 13 years now, and I still rather enjoy it...

I should have just quoted you in the first place - I feel the exact same way as you do. Creating things and the "nuts and bolts" are what it's all about.

HTML and CSS? No... it's too trivial and wastefully redundant.

PHP, some perl, shell scripts (bash or c-shell), C/C++, and occasionally some python is fun though

Actually...I do enjoy coding if it is something I want to work on. If it is for someone elses stuff I hate it LOL. One of the reasons I quit freelancing...

HTML and CSS gets too redundant after a few minutes. PHP and C# can keep me occupied for quite some time though. I find it very relaxing and enjoyable! A little music, glass of tea (iced or hot) and I'm in heaven!

Love coding? I live to code

I'm one of those guys that used to stay up 40 plus hours at a time pushing different systems to their limits and finding ways to exploit them. Back in the day, that's what real hacking was all about.

These days, I would still rather code than do anything else. For me it's the challenge of blending all of the different technologies and languages together to make something new.

I just can't pull the 40 hour sessions anymore

Like most I love it when a plan comes together

After a long session of coding where I may be hitting the wall because of a small typo's, feel the stress of a deadline, get distracted in adding more bells and whistles just to make it work better, get jumpy of the volume of coffee i poured in myself and feel a bit weak in the stomache because I slept only 3 hours and woke up with an Eureka moment, I love seeing the final product if that is working like I want too.

True... I really need to get away from shell scripts. It's where I started coding though (back in the day on HP-UX machines).

But I still have a lot of my daily/weekly/monthly server routines that run as cronjobs as shell scripts. I do think I have one that is perl though (it rotates my log files for all my web sites monthly).

Nothing wrong with using them...I just pretty much do everything in PHP anymore. Mainly because....I don't have to change any syntax lol...just stay with what I like. Most of my crons are all PHP too. But there are still some file system maintenance tasks you can perform better with shell scripting anyway. So nothing wrong with continuing to do that at all.

coding...

depends...

I think, like Don (zerofill), I like working on my own stuff.

My last corporate job I wrote software, but as part of the release engineering department. Loved it.

Shell scripts. (LOVE shell scripts. awk/sed/grep and I'm in heaven, LOL.)

I think I did more programming than the folks in the development group -- who had to worry about qa cycles, betas, getting their code to work by a particular release.

It was fun.

I still run cygwin on my Windows machine.

In fact, when I get a new Windows machine, it's one of the first things that goes on it, close on the heels of the anti-virus software.

BTW -- all you codeheads can join the Geeks Alive! social group here on the WF, for people who've misplaced their coding pencil, but know they have one....

I Love it. It's infuriating at times, but the satisfaction
when something works is way worth it.

Just getting my head round the MVC framework at the
moment - that's a bit of a brain melter.

I joined Geeks Alive! yesterday.

Yeah I been slow to think about adapting MVC also...I still just jump in and write lol. I don't know...I played with CakePHP, Symphony, CodeIgniter, Zend and I really don't enjoy playing with any of them yet lol...I guess once I have some free time to really sit down and take it in I might like it.

I taught myself MySQL & PHP and like the challenge of coding scripts (or websites) to do what I want... I know enough about Javascript to be a hazard...

HTML and CSS is a bit boring but necessary.

Sig not working today - too hung over...

I love to hate coding. While I am doing it, I am fine. Then the errors come (**bangs computer, curses the world**)....the the fixes come (**pull myself together**)....then more errors from my "fixes"....a couple dozen google searches until finally I get it (**and then I feel like a genius).

I'm a hobby coder at heart, so i guess i do enjoy it. Take for example a site i modified from the phplinkdirectory script and changed it into an online recipe database. See, that's the kind of thing I like to do. Take an existing framework and molding it into something that fits my vision.

Sadly, yes I started working on a Geocities page when we got our first computer, which introduced me to HTML and javascript, and it blossomed from there. Now I'm primarily a web applications programmer in PHP/SQL/HTML/CSS/javascript/AJAX/etc. Fun stuff!
