  • Are you talking about shared hosting?

If so, namecheap is a big enough company that has been around long enough to be reliable. But there are some hosting providers that are more popular and maybe more dependable. HostGator for one.

I tend to use Namecheap when I am buying domains, either them or Godaddy personally I prefer Hostgator to host my sites there back up service is second to none, hope this helps.

I only use namecheap for domains, so I am no help either. Sorry.

Though, as mentioned, they are a big company, you'd think their hosting should be quality.

I am presently with Bluehost (and have to renew my hosting package in the next days) but I would like to reduce my cost for few months. I think I will use namecheap monthly package (shared hosting) for few months and maybe switch back later to bluehost (does not provide monthly package) or hostgator.

Is it possible to use ssl key with namecheap or hostgator on shared hosting?

Namecheap would certainly be an upgrade from BlueHost - as a direct competitor to my company, I'd recommend Namecheap.

If you own the SSL cert and it's portable, it shouldn't be a problem getting it installed.

I am not a Namecheap customer. However, I have only ever heard good things about their domain registration service.

I assume that you are considering using them because you have your domain(s) registered there.

If that assumption is correct, I would strongly encourage you NOT to use them for hosting as well. For the simple reason that it is bad policy to host your website at the same place your domain is registered. You are simply giving too much power over your fate to someone else.

Take it or leave it, but it is a bad idea.

Also, I haven't been a Hostgator customer for years, but do a search for them right here on the forum and you'll see that their quality has taken a dramatic hit over recent months.

    Keep looking, and good luck.

Even before reading your post I was thinking of staying with bluehost (since I do not want to change the ssl key, etc...) but if I can find a cheaper hosting package somewhere else (other than namecheap) with monthly payment I will do it.

An SSL certificate shouldn't stop you from moving - your new host can install this literally in seconds...

Yes, of course but I have just checked the monthly pricing on arvixe.com and eleven2.com : it is even more expensive after three months comparatively with bluehost quaterly payment. So, at the moment staying with bluehost is the best solution.

This was given in another thread (http://www.warriorforum.com/internet...sucks-now.html) as "good hosting" company in the same category than namecheap....

Then, my choice is reduced to only staying with bluehost.

HostGator, BlueHost, IPage, HostMonster, or any other EIG brand are not the only hosting companies out there....do some checking around as those are NOT quality providers.

I mean, if you're set on staying, then why create the thread? There's been multiple alternatives provided that will give you a much better quality service. The only reason they're "well known" is because of their affiliate payouts..

They're all the same company for the most part.

I mean, we're talking the cost of a lunch for a much better service provider...over the course of a month..

What I'm saying is the yes, Namecheap is a much better solution than BlueHost - as is most other "non-unlimited" providers. Mdd Hosing, Hawkhost, StableHost etc.....

Despite of the fact that namecheap is equally all my domains registrar (I saw that there is an additional fee in order to be able to use a ssl key)?

The reason people suggest this is because
      (1) a host is not a registrar,
      (2) at most registrars, hosting is a "me too" service (ie, not something they specialize in, or even do that well).

In Godaddy case, they just all-around suck at everything, both as registrar (terrible anti-consumer policies) and terrible hosting (slow, crappy proprietary servers). They spend too much money on ads, and not enough on servers. The effect? Trying to upsell everything, overloading servers, etc. Again, terrible company all around.

Namecheap, however, is the exception to the "never put hosting and domains together" rule. They excel at both hosting and at being an ICANN certified registrar. I'd consider Namecheap a competitor of the larger excellent hosts like Site5 and Arvixe. Better, in fact, as Namecheap has some very nice high-end products (Xen VPS, dedicated servers, SSDs, etc). Two of our servers are with them, and it's because they're so good.

Coincidentally, the VP of hosting at Namecheap wrote about this very topic earlier this month. It tells of what Namecheap does. I'd just warn that it DOES NOT apply to other registrars AT ALL.
      Read it: http://community.namecheap.com/blog/...good-web-host/

For SSL certs, Namecheap is the ONLY company where it wasn't a PITA. For domains and hosting, I have several excellent choices. But for SSL, in my opinion, there's only one choice.

      Whatever you do, don't use
      - Godaddy
      - Yahoo
      - 1&1
      - Dreamhost
      - the 50+ EIG brands, including Hostgator, Bluehost, Justhost, iPage, Fatcow, and a crapload others
      - amateur/kiddie host

Just pick from the following list:

      MDD
      Stablehost
      Veerotech
      Hawkhost
      Site5
      Arvixe

I've used MDD, Stablehost and Hawkhost and friends use the rest. But those are the highest rated options I've seen for that $10/month budget you mentioned.

I personally would not use my domain registrar as my host, but that's just me.

Well read my blog post (that was cited above at Can a domain registrar be a good web host?) and see if you think differently.

We've worked hard to change this misconception with us and we have a lot of people enjoying our hosting services.

Thank you for the feedback and positive recommendations so far. I'm happy to address any questions that people have around our hosting service.

It's good to see Matt from Namecheap here. They are a good company and I've seen good reviews at WHT, but overall I still prefer the price/quality of Hawkhost's semi-dedicated (with the discount they often give). Their default Litespeed also makes a big difference to simple Apache (without Varnish or Nginx).

This doesn't mean they aren't a good solution for many here, on the contrary.

I'll put in my unbiased two cents here. I am in no way compensated by or associated with Namecheap.

I began using them to register my domains about two years ago and the service has been stellar. About a year ago I purchased a reseller hosting package from them and recently added a dedicated IP. Once again, the service has been fantastic.

Are there issues from time to time? Of course there are. You're dealing with digital services so things will come up. What I can say is that the few times I have encountered an issue, responses to my support tickets were very fast. In addition, the support staff has given a lot of handholding to walk me through various issues. They have even done things on my behalf, like installing an ssl for me, that I could have done on my own. I can also say that the issues I have encountered have mainly been on my end via a lack of technical know how. There have been zero issues with downtime or website interruption.

I am also a longtime HostGator customer, and, in truth, the quality of the service is pretty close. I do think Namecheap is more customer-friendly in many cases, and they constantly offer specials and promotions that keep their customers engaged. The holiday trivia contest they do every year is pretty awesome.

From price to service, I have no reason to think of looking elsewhere. Namecheap has lived up to what I expect from a vendor.

I tried Namecheap several times....reseller account, vps, and dedicated server. For some reason, their setups have strange glitches, out-of-memory errors (on even new sites), they go blank sometimes...just odd. I can't recommend them at all and I really like Namecheap for domains, but hosting? Never again.

This sounds more like a site error than a hosting error. In a VPS/Dedicated if you have an out of memory error, you are using all of the available resources, resources that are guaranteed for you.

I have a VPS server with namecheap. The server speed is amazing, stable and reliable. The support is the best I have ever had for hosting, and I have used all the big names.

Depends on what you're doing and what your budget is, but if you're looking to build a business online, you really need at least a VPS server to get decent speed for your customers.

I know what you mean. Moving can be a real hassle, and I put it off for years. The final straw was when my sites were up and down for about a week. I took the plunge and moved my main sites and got them up and running on the VPS, and will install any really important transactional sites e.g. Membership sites and high traffic sites to the VPS. I'll still retain my other host as a backup.

I use Namecheap for all of my domains, and HostGator for all of my hosting.

I know when it comes to hosting that HostGators support is #1, I have never got off the phone with them without having my question fully answered.

Hostgator had a looong downtime recently. All reviews and opinions from before 2013 should be ignored, things changed, really changed.

My recommendation the hosting company and the registrar are NOT the same company. And godaddy they are the worst I hate that company but that's me and M. Filsaime I heard him say he doesn't like them as well.

Honestly, I think it's always a mistake to use what is primarily a registrar for hosting. It is also always a mistake to have your hosting where your domains are registered. If your host should get a spam report or some other bug up it's butt, they can suspend your hosting, but can't touch your domain unless it's registered there also. It would be simple to just change the nameservers and relaunch your sites on another host if necessary.

Well, Matt of Namecheap, I stand by my advice. I do use Namecheap and recommend them for registering domains. I do NOT recommend hosting where you register your domains.

Unfortunately the WF moderators removed my link but my point remains. Choose a good, reputable service provider and you'll have no problem.

Choose someone untrustworthy and you'll have issues. Choose one of the highest paying affiliate hosts and you'll have issues. Choose one of the fly-by-nights and they'll disappear.

There are good alternatives to us, I'm not disputing that. I recommend some of them in here. I'm friends with some of them.

But I will continue to refute outdated advice. Why? Because I care about this industry. It's already got a bad enough name for itself. And there's only a select few that care about anything other than bottom line to try and correct that.

Unfortunately the WF moderators removed my link
As I mentioned to you privately, we remove nearly all links to external blogs or articles in the body of posts, when they're reported. It has nothing to do with the content of the page being linked to.

You are welcome to make your points within the thread itself.

If you need a quality hosting service, use ifastnet or webintellects.
These companies have plans which are full of useful resources and servers are stable.
Uptime is high and their support service is beyond praise.

Do yourself a favor & stay with Namecheap - going "from" namecheap to bluehost would be a downgrade.

I have enjoyed Namecheap for one reason in particular.

I can preload my account with money through paypal and then have my VA purchase domains for me (usually EMDs for book Titles). That way I don't have to spend my time sitting there looking for what is available.

  • Namecheap is not a registrar they are just a private label reseller for enom. Enom (Namecheap) are the best compared to 1&1 and Godaddy. Godaddy you should stay away, they have blocked people's account and took days to unblock over 1 single complaint, so be careful putting your primary domain with them, 1&1 I had problems with their staff, plus it took ones 5 days to propagate the domain years ago, something smelled fishy so I use enom which I think are the best.

    No.

There's almost always a trace left behind. What exactly is left behind depends on the knowledge of the hacker, and the level of sophistication. But even then, there's often fingerprints. There's too much to alter to make it invisible.

Some certainly. The 42 posts I just removed regarding Booster's tech support issue weren't really going to be of use, and the way they started out could easily have lead people to a conclusion the final resolution didn't justify.

Namecheap hosting is good. I use both Bluehost and Namecheap, i almost buy Hostgator hosting the other day but i hate the long waiting time so i bought another Namecheap shared web hosting. Currently, i use two shared hosting on Namecheap (the first one i bought last year) and one on Bluehost. I also buy domain names there. I don't have any problem with their hosting and would recommend you to try it during their huge sales now. Services is great and support is fast.
