Guest bloggers want follow links

Every day i get 1 or 2 requests. Some i want to accept because it's good quality content. All of the backlinks i post are no follow. Today one of my guest bloggers asked me to remove the article or make the link follow. I removed the article. In the future what should i do? Keep all links no follow?

If their website is HIGH quality, not spammy, potentially decent PR and directly relevant to your niche than I wouldn't worry too much about having a do follow link there. If anything it will actually give you more authority in Google's eyes.

On the other hand, if their website is spammy and not overly relevant to your niche, than I'd keep it nofollow (or remove if requested).

Why would people spend hours researching and writing content for you, if you don't give them anything in return? I would ask for the article to be removed too, right away.

A nofollow link is still a ranking signal for Google and it provides relevant traffic back to their site, so that's definitely something in return. It's also a good way to build a name and reputation for yourself.

You also need to remember that it has been openly expressed that "un-natural" guest blog links are also potentially degrading to the host blog.

I think you have this bass ackwards. It's your site - your rules. Guest bloggers should be submitting their content because of the quality traffic they'll gain by being featured on your site. You should be looking for content that your readers will find engaging. If a guest blogger starts to dictate what kind of links you should be using on your own site, find another contributor - or seek out quality content elsewhere.

Exactly, it's your blog so you make the rules. I guess you just have to state those rules up front on a guidelines page. Having said that, I don't see what the problem is with do follow backlinks provided your site isn't completely made up of guest posts.

And Matt Cutts explained that "unnatural" meant "viagra pill links on a cooking site" to put it in his own words.

At least you should make it clear that the link provided is a no follow, so that people who aren't interested will not lose their time and yours submitting. As far as I am concerned, if I am not deemed worthy enough to get a link from the site, I definitely won't lose my time writing even a 400 word article for it.

One of the primary reasons a blogger would write a guest post is to get backlink juice from a dofollow link. It can actually benefit your site to have a good mixture of dofollow and nofollow links (so long as you continue nofollowing the links that have a monetary connection).

If the blog post is high quality and relevant to your site, it doesn't hurt you to dofollow the link.
