So as some of you may know I am currently serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. I've been trying to get my feet wet in the IM business and as many new people, I'm already finding myself questioning my creativity, motivation, and abilities.

Today as I was browsing the forums as I do every other day, I came up with a brilliant idea (at least in my opinion). I'm thinking about starting up a forum for members of the Coast Guard. As far as competition, I have none. The only other sites that offer a place for coast guard members to sit down and converse about certain topics is military.com which just redirects people to the other competitor which is fredsplace.org.

I think I've come up with a killer name which also happens to be available for purchase. Before I jump into this project I just want to have some questions answered.

-What kind of software/program would I need to manage a forum?
-What tips could I get to help me get some legit CG members to visit and sign up?
-What kind of legal issues could I face using CG pictures and other things on my site?
-Anyone interested in helping out on the project?

Thanks in advance for any advice. I know it might seem off the wall but it's just an idea which I can contribute to in soo many ways!

    Hi,

That sounds good, what you need to do is target the CG's, either through Google Adwords or article marketing, Google will cost you money and is the quickest method. What about placing an ad in a CG magazine?

As for images, take your own, otherwise you will be paying a high price for them. Try searching Google under "photostock images" .

As for a script, have you tried hotscripts.com they have tonnes of scripts some are free to try, but look for a good rating.

How about this for off the wall...go to bars that you know are frequented by CG's and leave flyers about your site!

    Good luck.

-What kind of software/program would I need to manage a forum?
Cpanel has some very good options for forums that I use they are effective & cost
    efficient.

-What tips could I get to help me get some legit CG members to visit and sign up?
Keywords important, groups online in google, link with sites of similar interest,
post flyers, make business cards, do a squidoo, hub pages & weebly.

-What kind of legal issues could I face using CG pictures and other things on my site?
If you have ownership & they are your photos, permission from people you are photographing would be good. I use freefoto often for free graphics, check the license.

-Anyone interested in helping out on the project?

All the best with your new project! Check on 30 Day challenge for some good idea building.
