Creating a site for the short term potential

Hi all, firstly I would like to say I am new to the IM/SEO game. I have been doing tons of research on this forum among other sites for the past few weeks.

I have an idea for a niche site that encompasses a topic that is currently exploding in the media. I do however think that this type of media/public exposure will eventually fizzle in a matter of a couple months. I have not found a site that is dedicated to this topic.

Is it worth me pursuing something that could potentially blow up in the short term, but be quite mediocre in the long term?

  • After it fizzles, do you think there will still be on-going interest in your topic? If it will be mediocre later, I would consider going through with it.

It really depends on the niche. You should also consider how profitable this niche is regardless of the amount of traffic (i.e. regardless of whether it is a lot now and less later). Can you make money off of the traffic generated from this topic? If there are no sites around this topic, you can become the source for this topic before anyone else; that is a great opportunity; but again, this depends on the niche. If this topic revolves around celebrity gossip or other entertainment related topics, it might not be worth it...

If you believe you can make enough money over the few months that the topic is "hot" that it provides a decent living wage to you then I see no reason why you cannot adopt this approach.

As the above poster says - are you sure that the traffic you will receive is something that will convert into those all important dollars either through selling a product or selling advertising space?

At the end of the day, a domain and some hosting doesn't cost much so it is merely your time and effort that you have to account for.

I cannot agree with any of this. You say you are new to the Internet Business game, which tells me you have done research but have little actual experience.

Your goal shouldn't be to get as much money from the topic before it becomes old news. Your goal should be to learn as much as you can about the "Business".

I have an idea for a niche site that encompasses a topic that is currently exploding in the media.
      Build it!

Going through the actual motions are going to teach you invaluable lessons. How to set up your website, what kind of content your readers want, advertising your website, and proper monetizing, are all things you will learn by doing.

Lets say you buy a domain ($11) and hosting ($10) and you set up a simple Wordpress website. You write and publish content on the site, and advertise through Social sites and Forums. (There are ways to do all of this for Free, if you look in the right places)

What will you learn from doing all this? Do you think the site will have the potential to earn something? Is what you learn from these experiences going to be worth the investment of $0 - $21?

Now, lets say you continue to come to the Warrior Forum to ask IF you should start the website, or if people think it will be a good idea...

What will you learn from this? Do you think this will have any potential to earn something?
