... is Hummingbird more effective then many may have thought? Perhaps something cyclical in nature on this forum?

Seems to be more talk of such, as of late ...

As it relates to a general question of conversation in this forum, I can think of no industry that doesn't get centralized into less, but much more powerful and large hands, eventually. Perhaps technological breakthroughs temporarily scatter that centralized power to the winds for entrepreneurs to seize upon with less material investment, new start-ups making it big, but, in the end, that power will re-centralize.

Where all ya'll (that's the proper plural of ya'll - all ya'll) think IM is at in that process? Nothing is dead, plenty of opportunities left for a start-up with little to no capital other than a computer, an internet connection, time, talent, skill and drive, but how long will that remain the case?

Me personally, I think in certain areas, that process has begun. Google will always be pushing this direction. They get better and more successful with achieving their goals with every push, or so it seems.

Nothing is dead, and certainly there will be new opportunities that will continue to spring up, but I do believe that certain doors are starting to close for those that lack serious start-up capital and skill.
