Building A List With Facebook In Any Niche?

Hi,

I am working in the camera niche and im linking my facebook ad directly to a tab which has my opt in page. Can I build a list in this niche and make it profitable by promoting a high gravity clickbank photography guide? I hear people say to use facebook for only dating, gaming and mmo. But if I build a list and then promote my photography offers is that different? Thanks

Sure you can. With that kind of thing, I would definitely offer a lot of great free content, advice, tips, etc. upfront. Then offer more of that for people who join your list. The offers should come later for this one - after trust is built.

Thanks guys. I have a free guide that I am giving them upfront. Then I have some paid products I will promote them after building a relationship with them. So the photography niche is a good one for this huh?

You can make money in a lot of niches. Facebook is just a lead generation site the same as if you advertised anywhere else. It's all about putting your offer in front of the right people at the right time.

Just bear in mind that using a tab might get you a little cheaper clicks but tabs do not work on mobile phones so you won't be able to advertise to all of those users who account for most impressions these days.

Most people I know who are successfully using Facebook PPC are linking directly to the page on their own website.

I've built lists in at least 20 different niches on Facebook...cameras will probably work fine. I would split test the opt-in location. Usually on a tab it doesn't convert as well as off-Facebook. Part of it is what Will said about mobile users not being able to see it, but even targeting desktop only I usually do better with the opt-in off of Facebook.

Hi Ryan. So you say it's best to link your facebook ads to external websites? This works for me but my cpc's are quite high with this method. How do u keep cpc's down in order to make your cost per lead low?

      Cheers,

        Jan,

I tend not to focus too much on CPC. That's not what is important. How much do you make from the lifetime value of each of those leads you are getting? Until you know that figure you are simply stabbing in the dark.

The advertisers that are most successful know the lifetime value of each lead and therefore know exactly how much they can spend on getting each lead. Would you happily pay $5 per lead if you knew each lead was worth $50 to you over the space of 12 months? I would.

On the same token, would you be happy to pay just 10 cents per lead if you knew the lifetime value of those leads were just 5 cents. So as you can see focusing on CPC is not always the best way to go. You need to know your numbers. That way you can outspend all your competitors and take all the traffic.

Generally speaking, the more you are prepared to bid in any advertising platform, the more traffic you will have access to and the more money you can make. If you are always having to go after the cheap clicks then you won't do as well and will limit the traffic you can get.

In most cases, yes it's best to take visitors to an external landing page...if they are still on FB there are tons of other distracting things to click on. Like Will said, I don't stress too much about "cheap" clicks, but just shoot for profitable clicks. I have some niches where my average cost per subscriber is around 13 cents and their short-term value runs around 20 cents...that's profit, but takes a TON of volume to make any real money. But I have a couple niches where my average subscriber costs $3 or more and they are significantly more profitable. I'm sure there are much more expensive subscribers that are even more profitable, but I'm not in those niches yet.

Anyway, one way that sometimes (but not always) lowers costs is to send the ad to a page tab that auto-redirects to the external landing page. It's kind of a loophole...FB gives you the internal price but you still get your visitors off-site.

It can also be done on facebook with facebook ads, take your best pictures and promote them to the targetted audience, you can also make use of networks that are specially for photos, art sharing lovers.

You should test and find out what works well for you. Targeting the correct audience is also important. I got better response by sending traffic to a post rather than the tab with iframe of the squeeze page.

If you send traffic to a tab with iframe then make sure you test the tab with the latest version of browsers like firefox and IE. Some of the latest versions of firefox block mixed content and therefore you would get a blank page instead of a squeeze page.

What if the tab redirects to a external website though?

facebook is about people chatting, relaxing and discussing on hobbies. Photography is a hobby based niche. So, facebook can send targeted traffic to you. The only thing you need to ensure is that your facebook ads should be targeted to right audience

I'd probably use an incentive featuring photography tips or photo editing techniques to promote cameras. I'm not sure what incentives you could offer simply about cameras.

I suspect it's a good niche since people into photography are very passionate and buy a TON of stuff. It also offers plenty of visual media which is great for Facebook (if you plan on building out a page).

2 options I'd consider in building a list:

    1. Build up a fan page and get fans + subscribers. If you go this route, set up a like tab that redirects upon a like to an external squeeze page.

    2. Just build an email list: Test both a tab and ads directly to a page requesting an email. Whichever delivers best results, go with that.

Personally, I prefer building out the fan page and getting subscribers at the same time. This way you can send fans to your website and they may subscribe down the road.

      Hi,

@Ryan; how you do that on facebook to build lists in 20 different niches?

Does facebook allowed that you can have 20 different niche accounts?
Is that not againts fb TOS?

Say you have 20 different niches like cameras, fashion, cosmetic and so on (examples), so you have 20 different niche websites all with the same profil, profil photo???

Does this works? I can not believe that people trust you as an expert, when you have 20 different websites like; Ryan ist an expert in photography, Ryan is expert in jewelry, Ryan is expert in weight loss and so on,you know hat I mean.

How do that build grow up multiple different niches (build list) on facebook?

      best wishes

I would just like to chime in here real quick since I think I am living proof that FB ads can be profitable in ANY niche.

I mostly write fiction Kindle books.

The only advertising I have ever done was $5/day ad spends on Facebook to my pen name fanpage which used Leadpages tabs to collect emails. That was it. No website. Nothing.

I sell my fiction between $.99 and $2.99 - not great margins. Amazon takes 70% or 35% depending on my pricing.

I have still been able to make Facebook profitable.

For me the key is to realize that PPC of any kind is a marathon, not a sprint.

I go through a TON of bad ads before I find ones that work for me. And I don't make my money back right away - I have to play the long game. But even at terribly low margins of $.99 and $2.99 I am still in profit.

With a personal FB account, you can make as many FB ads and pages as you want. FB ads and pages do not have your name on them unless you put it there.

    Of course!

However, if you want to save some money, I would recommend just building Likes to your page (costs less) and then posting links to your squeeze.

You've been listening to the wrong people

The only person that can tell you that you aren't capable of doing something... is you... And you still don't have to listen

    Anyway, go for it!

There are more ways to monetize that niche besides the CB product (my guess is that it's the Trick Photography one)

Can you not promote higher products with higher commissions??
