If money is your main priority, then you may want to consider a self hosted solution. That way you will end up paying only a fraction of what Aweber/GetResponse can charge per subscriber. Especially for a larger list size.

No, it's not easy to transfer over your lists. Most providers won't let you do that without making them re-optin.

Self-hosted solutions don't have anywhere near the deliverability rate that Aweber does. And most hosts will freeze your ability to send thousands of emails.

Maybe there is something you can do to increase your profits so that you can pay for Aweber.

At GetResponse, we try to make it as easy as possible for people to transfer their lists. We'll even help them pack the boxes for the move. If you are worried about re-confirmation, we offer the option of waiving that if our compliance people don't find any issues with the list(s).

        Regards,
        jim

I mean this with all due respect, but usually if people are finding it hard to justify the cost of their autoresponder service, the problem is not the cost of the service, the problem is how much money they are (or are not) making from their lists.

I think you'd do better and make more income by concentrating instead on what you can do to make more money from your lists rather than moving them elsewhere to save a bit of money. By moving elsewhere you are conceding that is all you want to make from your email lists. A good email list should make you way more than the small cost of hosting it.

Again, I mean that with all due respect but that's my honest answer to a post like this. Focus on making more income from your list rather than looking for cheaper ways to host the list.

Another thing you can do is to always make sure you delete all of your unsubscribes frequently since they still count towards your subscriber total. And also do some pruning of your lists every now and then where you get rid of those who have not responded to your emails for x amount of time. These small things can definitely bring your list size and cost down without having any impact on the income from that list.

Yes, if your autoresponder is costing you more than 2-3% of what it's making you, you're probably not using it to anywhere near its potential. That being said, I just switched from Aweber to SendReach. They import your lists from Aweber for you and don't require all your subscribers to re-confirm. It's still in beta right now, but I'm convinced they will be around for the long term and their beta pricing is pretty good.

The SendReach video on their capture page has a fake countdown for "only 236" lifetime subscriptions left. I don't know anything about the company or the quality of it's service but if they start off lying to get customers they will not be getting my business.

There are many autoresponders, but if you want something competitive with aweber, it's get response, it costs less but no doubt about quality it works great and is the best email marketing solution.

Yes, get-response and aweber are the two main leaders in this area. I am using aweber from a year now, and its working fine for me. Yes its a bit costly but still affordable

Deliverability will be an issue with self hosted autoresponders. Even if you subscribe to 3rd party smtp services, inboxing to all major email providers is a challenge.

It would be better to focus on your core activities and outsource your autoresponder part to aweber / get response.

i think it's best to use well known AR if you still want to make money online now and in the future...

    Just sharing personal experience...

until last year, i used a cheap AR... let's just say the initial : "NB"
and, i've been collecting email using that NB for couple of years

until, the last time, i found that most of my emails goes to client's junk/spam email even though they already confirm their optin email... Thanks to my friends that point that out to me... (i asked a lot of my friends to opt-in so that they can track the email :>)

when i contact the AR owner if there's any update or news about the AR... as guessed... no reponse at all...

and the worst part... i cannot transfer the list to the new AR...

Yup... finally... lost my +- 1000 subs....

    Lesson learned....

i have start over with Getresponse now :>

again, this is only my personal experience, and i think sharing this could be useful for you :>

    Warm regards,
    Hendy AUgust

I've tried/demo'd pretty much most of the main email marketing solutions out there and have found Mailchimp to be the best. Putting aside it's popularity, it's just the web based email marketing option out there if you're not a developer or have knowledge of other delivery systems e.g Amazon SES.

Here are alternatives to Aweber, Email Marketing Software

It's a comparison of over 10 software with its features, pricing, Alexa ranking etc. I'm sure it'll help you find a good alternative.

    (Hope it helps)

Once i was also in that position when the aweber fees was becoming burden over me, but still i moved on and was unable to recover my lost opt in's which were more than 2000, so i will recommend you to try hard and find a way to further explore the potential of your list
Also there is option in Aweber if you want to discontinue, in which you have to pay a fraction of what you are paying now and you database will remain safe until you decide to fully activate your account

I used AWB long time ago & my list was growing too slowly to justify. Currently on MC. All the comments about making enough off the list & trimming them from time to time makes sense.

Having said that, you can try/lookup Sendy. Sendy - Send Newsletters 100x cheaper via Amazon SES Have not tried it myself but looks good for someone with a large list, no where to go (re-optin by new service provider) and low cost services. Charges a one time fee and runs on Amazon SES. Looks simple and decent.

Sendy is good. Ultimately what I went with. But there are several other WP alternatives at varying (one-time) price levels, some are free. Depends on the features you want.

Imnica is a great cheap alternative and you can upload your contacts there too as long as you have the IP adress and date of sign up.

I tested Imnica before and all my emails to gmail subscribers end up in their spam box,

ive been using aweber for about 3 years now and since mid 2013 response rates and delivery have been shocking..

I've moved to a vps now.. running aprreach and using amazon ses for mailing on the backend.. delivery and response rates have shot back up again sendy.co self hosted also gets good reviews..

Imnica is better quality now. I compared from last year. But to make sure about open rate and clicks just use GetResponse for Aweber alternative.

Mailchimp seems to be a good alternative. I believe they have a free option for people with smaller lists.

I've used both Get Response & AWeber. Personally I've enjoyed better customer service with Get Response. It seems that AWeber is cold-blooded because they are the market leader and can afford to take their sweet time to help you (unlike the lightning-fast response time from GR).

I use AWeber for my affiliate marketing, and Get Response for my subscription marketing.

Are you wanting to look into just an auto responder or marketing automation. Auto responders, like aweber, are great but the new marketing automation technology is so much more powerful for online business and converts much higher.
