Any Autoresponder Software Program?

Is there like a program out there that has a complete autoresponder capacity like AWeber and GetResponse, but you don't have to access the internet to use it nor pay a monthly fee and just use it from your own computer, like any other programs (DreamWeaver, PhotoShop, etc)

I think that will be awesome!

If only there was a programmer out there that can create a software like this, he would be rich?

(I came up with this idea, so I thought I might get some credit for this idea if anybody does this

There is software that does this. Very few people use it because you can get your home internet shut down if someone complains.

    Google it.

The minute you try sending emails from your home computer, you're putting your internet connection at risk. All it takes is a few people reporting "spam" to get your home internet cut off.

There are actually quite a few private autoresponder scripts out there, both server-based (i.e. on your web site) or desktop-based (on your own PC.)

Some desktop mail programs can even be set up to behave like autoresponders.

One problem with these things is the spam issue mentioned by several people already. It's almost certain that the terms-of-service from your internet provider include a clause that says you absolutely will not spam. And it's almost certain that eventually someone will complain that you're spamming them, even if you have a double opt-in list.

Another problem is deliverability. The commercial autoresponders go to a LOT of trouble to make sure that their messages will be delivered. They spend a lot of time, effort, and money making sure that huge ISPs like AOL will pass their messages. Most people doing an "on your own" autoresponder can't afford to do that and they end up having many of their autoresponder messages deleted by ISP filters before get to the intended recipient. One spam complaint about your autoresponder to one of the blacklists and you'll suddenly find that 90% of your messages aren't being delivered. The commercial autoresponders have strict policies and mechanisms in place to avoid spam complaints and they've taken the time to work with the blacklists and the ISPs to ensure that messages from their services don't get filtered.

There's actually a lot of desktop applications that you can use to send out messages. I used to use a Mac program. The problem is that they are not automated like aweber. They are more used for mass mailing and even then they have issues with IP addresses being banned. You still have to gather the emails and then enter them into the program yourself.

There is a free self-hosted script you can try called phplist. That one seems to work pretty well and I have used it in the past.

If you're looking for server side software - to run on a dedicated or virtual private server - then check out Autoresponse Plus by fellow warrior Neil Morgan. For small lists, or lists of folks who know you well, his software will do the job very well.

If you're building lists just to market to - then you need to rethink your strategy, since as other folks have said - if too many of them complain about spam, your provider is going to shut you down fast - because their connections can get shut down as well! They have to do this to protect themselves.

Some folks run their ARs from their own server with no problems - others get shut down after their first blast. Its just something to be aware of when you start running your own AR system.

But if you're communicating with your customers or verified propspects, membership, etc - running your own AR system can be done.

    Good luck,

there is one called interspire-emailmarketer, it is on the pricey side however. It does all that you want in an autoresponder.

I had a client that wanted to run mass mailing software from his computer. i warned him against it but he just laughed and said he was going to anyway.

Less than 30 minutes into his mailing his Internet access was canceled. No warning no nothing. He called up his ISP raising hell and they told him in very few words to go find another ISP for his Internet access.

After I saw how narcissistic this client was I dropped him like a rock also.

Help me to understand the conclusion being made here: Because of the spam issue, do not use standalone programs like Autoresponse Plus, Mail Loop, and interspire-emailmarketer unless you are working with a list of customers, clients, you know well.

      Thanks

Does your program allow for rotating ips? If it doesn't then that's a quick way to get messages that can't be delivered.

I'm sure it has no problem handling large lists but if someone is going to constantly be sending off messages then there needs to be a way to rotate ip addresses otherwise the messages will get rejected by the recipients host. This results in a waste of time and money in the end. Maybe you can provide with your service information on how to set up a hosting account that rotates ips every x amount of weeks.

Hostgator will help you out if you have questions about that.

Thanks Scott, aka "Halifax" for saving me some typing!

Another thing to consider is the support and information these large AR's will supply. That alone is worth the price. You have to remember if you're in business selling on the net, an AR is one of most necessary and vital investments you'll make. It's one of the expenses of doing business.

Like all things, it's not actually as "black and white" as that.
