Email list and opt in options

I run a dog blog, that is slowly growing. I just joined aweber and want to create an opt in. What should I give to them in exchange for their email? I was thinking something along of dog food but do I have to write a long e book? Can it be 1-2 pages or should it be longer?

    Hi,

You could do some research on top 10 tips on how to control your dog's barking
or something that solves a particular problem.

Create a top 10 tips report and use that as a free gift.

There's tons of information out there you can use.

You could even type into Google - "PLR dog training e-books" etc
and see what results you get back.

    Hope this helps

It s a very lucrative niche..so you have plenty of material for you to use.
You can make a survey first on your site asking your users what are their most common problems regarding thier dogs.. then you get a plr product, or if you really want to give more value to your subscribers, you can pay someone to make a good 15-20 page report, and give them in exchange for their emails.
Remember that your subscribers are regular people..not just names on a list, so the same rule applies like on real world..if you give them valuable info/content, they will begin to trust you..and of course that means more sales for every product recommendation..

I think 3-5 pages would do good but with good tips. sometimes we do not have to judge books by their page number. As for me I like to the point books. Sometimes I try to watch youtube video about how to do stuff then I loose patience when the person starts explanation from the begining instead of telling me exactly what to do.

It could be as simple as a 1 page "How to teach a dog to sit" or any other trick. Could talk about barking, potty training, crate training, etc... You could make it a video if thats easier for you. This could actually turn into a cool serious where every new email (once a week, once a month) you teach your list a new tip or trick. The key is to make your adcopy sound compelling. Hope this helps.

    Hi Anna,

I just started with Aweber on my blog too, but I also don't have a product yet. I also have very little traffic with my blog being very new, so all I have done is create a sign-up box in the side menu with text like "Tips and tricks direct to your inbox each week", that kind of thing, where I will send out mails just informing list members of new posts or some valuable small tips.
I also put a sign up box at the end of each post, which I believe is very effective.

Work on a free give-away when you know what your readers want. Do a survey in a blog post. Don't be shy, just ask what they would like the solution to the most.
But most of the giveaway products I have downloaded are around 10-15 pages long, with the longest being about 25-30 pages. You can try using PLR, but rebrand it and rewrite 80% of it and make sure it gives value. Do not give away any old rubbish just because it's free. You need your list to trust you, and rely on you to give value.

Another tip. When you do create your own PDF product, turn it into a Powerpoint and upload it to SlideShare, and upload the PDF to document sharing sites, but make sure your URL is included a few times. It's all promotion and free traffic. You can also record a video of the Powerpoint and upload it to YouTube with maybe a voiceover on it. These are all good ways to turn one product into many promotional avenues. You could even go as far as using it as a base for your own Webinar too.

    Hope that helps somewhat.

    Simon.

You have already received some great suggestions, but if you were
looking at the easiset thing of value to give away, why not do an
'expert interview'? All you need is, based on your blog topic, write
about 5-10 questions and allow someone to interview you and then
share the audio with those who sign up. You are creating 'expert'
status for yourself and often audio interviews are perceived as more
valuable than the same information in print AND it is easier to
    create--all advantages for you.

Thanks for the great advice everyone. I just have to do it. I keep getting frustrated with what I write. Either I have to write something good and knowledgeable or I have to get someone to write it for me.

Think backwards. What would you want to upsell to these people once they become a subscriber?

Let's say you want to sell dog obedience guide.

You may want to give a portion away for opt in....maybe, how to stop your dog from barking.

The report don't have do to be long. I think 10 - 15 pages would do.

Think about this, if they opt in for this report, chances are good they will purchase the rest of the product.
