Image Source: Supplied?? What it means

Hello Everyone,

A day back I was reading one blog about a famous personality and thought of re-writing the article and use the image given in the article as it is taken on the persons facebook. I mostly use CC images, but for this article I want to use this picture.

So what is says image source: supplied.

Can anyone help me understand the meaning of this and if I can use this image with or without permission.

Regards
Alex

It means the image was supplied to them. If you don't have express rights from the image owner then never use it.

What about embedding the same picture from facebook, because I don't think many people take permission for embedding a video or picture from facebook or twitter.

The question is not "how" you can use an image. The question is: Do you have the right to use an image?

If you don't own the image, you don't have the right to use it in any way unless the owner of the image has granted public domain rights to it. You can also gain rights by purchasing them, asking for permission and being granted such, or by licensing rights from one of the many royalty free image sites online.

Worry about obtaining rights first before you worry about how you're going to use someone else's image.

      Good luck to you,

      Steve

So what will be the standard process to ask for a permission. Will a simple email will be fine, so you can use it as a proof in time of question.

It's clearly illegal to use such images that you don't own or don't have permission to use. You can ask the person by emailing and if he grants you permission then it's fine to use them.

Yep. There are many people using images illegally all over the Internet. That's definitely no secret. There are also a ton of people who speed in their car each day as well. You might speed each and every day and never get caught but all it takes is the one time. So you need to weight things up for yourself. Don't base your decisions off of what everyone else is doing illegally because that won't be any defense when/if you get caught. So the simple answer is to never use an image unless it's your own image or you have express permission from the image owner.
