Offering A Reward To Someone Who Signs Up With An Affiliate Offer

Hi gang,

I've recently written a review of an Internet marketing product on my blog. I include an affiliate link to purchase the product.

To improve my conversion rate, I'd like to supply whoever purchases through my affiliate link with a complementary gift (a related eBook, or something of the like - I haven't created it yet).

How would I go about doing this? How would I be able to e-mail whoever signs up with my link later on with a download link? Is the only way to do this with an opt-in form?

The product vendor only uses Clickbank for affiliates.

Regards,
JR John

An autoresponder works best, or you could do it manually if you needed until you're ready.

If you setup an email account with an auto vacation reply, you could instantly email it to anyone who emails that address too.

How would I go about doing it manually? I think what I'm basically asking is how would I find out the e-mail of someone who signs up without using an opt-in? Is there even a way to do that via Clickbank?

Thanks for your input - especially the last thing you mentioned.

You can actually host the e-book on your own website, and have the link to it as a free download in your first email as a Thank You For Subscribing email. I did this with GetResponse, and it worked great ;-)

You could either also use this method to get opt-ins from your subscribers (as a pop-up after x amount of seconds--you definitely will get more subscribers as a pop-up than an off to the side free e-book for your subscription offer), or you could offer an entirely different e-book from the one you will be giving away with the affiliate offer. They would just be 2 different campaigns within GetResponse is all...(or any other autoresponder).

        Hope that helps Marjorie

Lots of people do this, its called a 'bonus' and its quite effective. "If you buy from me you get this extra {insert here} for FREE, you can only get it when you buy through my link, no where else"

Thanks for the input, both of you, but what I'm asking is HOW would I get to know that person's e-mail addy? I know how I can deliver the product if I already know their e-mail.

Aside from an opt-in, is there any way to get their e-mail ID?

Often when I am offered a bonus for making a purchase through an affiliate link, the affiliate will say something like "Send a copy of your PayPal receipt for Product XYZ to my support staff at (email link to the affiliate) and they'll send you your bonus."

Thanks for your input, Marjorie. But I'm planning to tell them beforehand that they will be getting my bonus, plus subscribing for updates to my e-mail list.

There is absolutely NO way I would spam, harvest e-mails, or do anything on the shady side of IM. I like webmasters who are upfront and honest to me, and I aim to do just that myself.

Ah - thanks. That would do it, I think. You've helped me tons throughout my short stay on the WF, Steven!

Just ask them to forward the order reciept and then send the bonus manually.

An incentive is always welcome bait! Works great - go for it!

Be careful when offering incentives for buying through your affiliate links. Some affiliate networks prohibit that. E. g. Commission Junction asks in the registration form if you are going to offer incentives to your visitors and some their merchants do not accept affiliates who are doing that. On the other hand, I have seen specialized affiliate networks for those who are offering incentives.

Not sure if Clickbank allows that or not, but I would contact both, the Clickbank and the vendor you are promoting to make sure you do not brake their terms.

Also, one of the purposes of list building is to create a relationship and trust factor with your subscribers, so that they appreciate the value you provide, and will be more likely to open your emails and purchase the things your promote....Marjorie

Take a few minutes and look at a few bonuses being offered for popular IM products. They almost always end with a call to action about emailing them with proof of purchase for thhe bonuses. If someone buys because of your bonus, they'll email you. If not, they bought for another reason.

Yep, and I assume that a screenshot of the transaction would be the best way to do that?

Don't worry - I'm also working on that as well. I'll have a number of free eBooks as an incentive for my list, but I want one special, high-value one that only people who sign up with my affiliate offer get (hey, I have to eat too, you know )

      Hey Jr John,

I see what you're saying now, and a good example of what you're looking for is at MikeForMaine.com . Just look at any of his affiliate offerings, and you will see that he offers several bonuses if you purchase through his link. All you have to do is email him your receipt and he'll send you the bonuses. He also opts you into his email list with your permission--so it's a great way to see how that's done too ;-) Marjorie

If you need an eBook, you don't need to write it You can use a service such as BooksBranding.com - they brand a well-known eBook and you are able to offer it to all your customers.

Steven's answer is what's the norm. You tell the buyers to provide you with their PayPal email address. You could probably put this instruction on your site just before or after the affiliate link to remind them of this.

Yes, that's what I do. I have them send me a quick email with their Paypal confirmation (or email). I have a separate email set up to distribute the bonus material through my auto responder.
