If you're wondering whether or not you should pay taxes on your affiliate income (or any other income), just remember this. Out of all the vicious and brutal crimes Al Capone committed in his "career" the one thing that sent him to prison was tax evasion. The government hates not getting their share of your money.. lol

In general, yes. But bear in mind if you're not earning a lot of money, then you'll probably be below the bottom tax band anyway.

Hi James, yes. You either pay it in the country where you earn it or you pay it in your country of residence. Check out the tax laws of your country. For example, if you are in Singapore. The answer is yes, you do have to pay taxes. |

and let me ask the next question. How much should you pay, if lets say you are earning somewhere $100 - $200 /week? how does the computation work?

You need to refer to the local tax codes wherever you live. If you are in the US, you may have city, county, state or other local taxes in addition to federal taxes. It really does depend on where you live.

Wow, some of the questions on this forum about accounting lead me to believe that there is a real need for a ebook in for income reporting.

you live and work in the USA you will need to report your part time earnings as well as the earnings from your job. The good news is if you've kept adequate records you may also be able to claim deductions for several household expenses that you otherwise would not be entitled to. Tsnyder

I don't understand how you can start a business and not already know the answer to that question. All I can say is good luck!

| True but there are some basic fundamentals in regards to normal operations of business that are rather standard - I mean without going into specific tax law.

If you work with CPA networks, almost all require a W9 for US based affiliates. If you earn over $600 the network has to report those earnings to the IRS, and since you are listed on the W9 the IRS knows that you made the money and therefore would like you to pay the income tax on the money. You can learn more at Internal Revenue Service, they are very helpful when it comes to giving them money. I am not a tax professional and this comment should not be construed as tax advice, only a qualified professional can do that. Hope this helps.

I don't know about Malaysia, but in the US you have to report the income, but can also deduct any related expense...ebooks, memberships, etc. that help you earn the income.

The US government has no legal right to charge an income tax on your labor. 1. The 13th amendment to the Constitution was NEVER legally ratified. 2. It is an illegal tax because it is not apportioned as the Constitution demands. 3. The US Supreme Court as said it is not a legal tax several times. The latest being in 2001. I could continue but what is the point. I personally have not paid income tax since 2000 and I never will again. Please don't take my word for it. Go and ask any tax professional to show you the law IN BLACK AND WHITE that says you must pay income tax. They won't do it. Why? Because the law does not exist. Take two hours out of your schedule and watch this vid. Or not! The choice is yours. freedom to fascism - Google Videos |

as far as an affiliate goes to paying taxes unless you where asked for your social security number you can not be held liable for taxes. A few of the owners of your affiliate programs may ask for your tax information. This is because it is their business. They have to pay taxes which should exept you from the taxes. Since they are liable to pay taxes as the owner. Those income taxes where already paid out through the owner of the affiliate program. You may still be liable for state taxes on your income through these affiliate programs.

If not let me make it clearer you are simply selling someone else's product for them as an affiliate. The government knows nothing about who made the sales the company you sold the product for is not listed as a actual employment business. You simply sell thier items for them you used your time to do so which makes you an employee to that affiliate program where the owner had to pay taxes on so so amount made on his product/s you are not liable unless you are making well over 10k a year on your affiliate program you will not have to pay taxes on your income
