Which hosting affiliate program have you made the most from?

Pretty straightforward query guys. I run a WordPress blog that gets a fair few hits, but have had little luck with hosting commissions. I'm getting clicks - it's the conversions that's a problem.

I had a banner ad for WP Engine for months that never generated a single commission. My guess is that WP Engine is seen as too expensive for most people.

My audience is fairly techy - it's a WP blog. So a fair few designers and developers.

Should I try promoting Bluehost? They seem rather run of the mill to me, but they seem to be popular.

Recently I've been promoting A Small Orange, who I like, but their payouts are low (2 x monthly fee) and, again, I'm just not getting the signups.

What's been your experience?

Is that all you're worried about is the commission size and don't care what quality of service your viewers get?

I also just posted these on another thread:

This is nothing new...promote a smaller company that has better quality. Just in 5 minutes searching up some recent threads....is this "really" where you want to send your viewers? Remember, they were bought our by EIG, which pretty much destroys every company they purchase & milks it for profits at the customers' expense..

My advice is go for the popular hosting companies such as godaddy and hostgator.

I would stay far away from promoting any EIG sites, I would think most affiliate commissions would be for shared hosting, and I would recommend those that made my short list as hosts to use they all seem reasonably priced and don't get many bad reviews:
      Glowhost
      Frog Host - Web Hosting
      Site5 Web Hosting
      Siteground
      JaguarPC
      Arvixe
      PacificHost

Hostgator, Hostmonster, Bluehost, Ipage, JustHost and FatCow are all heavily promoted hosts that are owned by EIG and most are hosted in the same datacenter owned by EIG and are quickly gaining a reputation for bad customer service and lousy performance.

I promoted Hostgator in the past but now that I am leaving I don't feel as comfortable. In my search for a new host I will look for someone that has a good affiliate program.

I did not know that A Small Orange is owned by EIG, I thought it was small and independent. I also didn't know that EIG own that many companies! Crazy really.

Thanks for the recommendations people. Site5 is looking pretty good to me.

Oh, and Kingfish, the size of the payout per signup is not the only factor, but it is a factor. If it was a dead heat between two hosts but one was paying $150 PS and the other $20, which would you plump for?

That's news to me as well, very surprising.

Yes, ASO was owned by HostGator and now owned by EIG.

Regarding the affiliate payout, if I knew it would mean smaller payouts, the longevity of the sites reputation would most likely be better.

StableHost is a great hosting company. I don't know about their affiliate program, but personally, I like to only promote businesses that I know provide a quality service. Most of the hosts mentioned in this thread I wouldn't trust due to their unlimited space/bandwidth marketing tactics. StableHost limits your space, which ensures that you don't have anyone uploading mass amounts of data and bogging down the server. I'd look into their affiliate program and see if its worth your time. -Assuming they have one of course.

I believe the problem here is that you have not been measuring the amount of clicks your banner ad has been getting. I learned a long time ago that what you measure, grows.

There's a cool plugin called AdRotate for WP that will do this for you.

    Maybe check it out?

You have some kind of disconnect with your audience. Are you trying to just make sales off of the click?

Most people take sometimes years to make a decision on whether or not they should buy something.

Some will buy straight out but you should still collect leads for the clicks. and then sell via email marketing.

Find out what the disconnect is. Something may be out of alignment with the visitor type.

You should aim to recommend the best service to the people who put their trust in you not the one that pays the most!

I doubt there are any good hosts that could pay the amount of that except EIG brands. They're spending the most of their budget on ads and affiliate but not on their quality.

I'd rather earn nothing from referring my loyal audiences to the best services rather than earning thousand with the service that ruin my audience's business because most of my audiences know me personally.
