Uk warriors, do you use a bank debit card for funding your monthly service companies?
Would a debit card (16 digit) be fine to be used to pay these?

hostgator, hosting service, (paying them monthly)
aweber autoresponder, (paying them monthly)
namecheap, domain purchasing, (paying them yearly)

You can use your credit card (16 digit etc) for the above.

Do any uk warriors though, use a bank Debit card for the above ? (and not a credit card)
which is the one you get for your bank current account ?

if so, are them three services fine with that, that you are using a bank account compared to a credit card? and have you had any issues with it, or it has been fine ?

I've been using my Halifax Visa debit card. Works fine which is lucky because I left my credit card at the airport when I left the UK in February!!!

The downside is that I get hit with a £1.50 transaction fee and a % currency fee when I'm buying services that don't use GBP. That sucks, so I'd always recommend a credit card instead.

what monthly services do you use ?
which you pay for monthly with your bank debit card?

and which ones do you get hit with the £1.50 fee? (which I presume is once a month)

I believe if the card has a VISA logo on it and you have enabled online transactions it should work. I used my debit card for Forex trading so I am pretty sure it will work on other websites.

I use Paypal, that way when the bank messes up or your card gets lost/stolen you don't lose your services. (As long as you have money 'in' paypal of course)

I find it's easier to have just the one point of control rather than several

I use Paypal to pay for regular online business services. I have a business paypal account attached to my business. Using Paypal meams you avoid the costs of converting USD to pounds that many banks will charge.

I use Paypal as much as possible as it's easier to cancel subscriptions etc. than when using a credit card. I do use my Visa debit to pay for some things online though - if your debit card is Visa or Mastercard it shouldn't be a problem.

        Hi Guys and Gals,

Yes, I've noticed a tendency to charge a fee when using a debit card - as opposed to a credit card - on line.

So I have a credit card account dedicated solely to business purchases and regular monthly payments, like Aweber. Then I simply pay for it from my business bank account.

Avoiding giving the banks extra fees gives me an even warmer glow than saving on my taxes!

        Warmest regards,

        Paul
