Biggest traffic mistake people make over and over

The biggest traffic mistake people is having crappy content on their site.

If you don't have quality content then visitors stay long enough to click on ads, signup for your newsletter or take any other action.

Visitors won't come back or tell their friends.

They won't stumble it, dig it, or vote it up in any fashion.

They won't talk about it, blog about it, or link to it.

And you'll work 10x as hard to get traffic.

I completely agree, only I wouldn't call it "traffic mistake" ... It's not only a "traffic" mistake, it's a "marketing" mistake, a "customer-relations" mistake, even a "business" mistake, because it will prevent you from ever really succeeding.

    Nice one, Nick!

Yes, 1 piece of unique quality content beats putting up tons of pages of crappy stuff that gets no traffic.

You're making too much sense here, go away!

Seriously, one of the best investments in time you can make is writing a solid autoresponder sequence. I have a 3 month sequence on one of my niche websites where I sell nothing and promote nothing. Just solid content. It works great, people love me and are therefore ready to buy anything I throw at them later on.

I just subscribed to Joel Bauer's newsletter. Another guy giving great content away almost everyday. Jakob Nielsen? Another great newsletter. Inside the IM niche is very difficult to find great content.

I completely agree that creating crappy content never encourages visitors to want more from you. But how about making just one half-hearted attempt at generating traffic? Don't you think this could be one of the biggest traffic mistake people make in their businesses?

If visitors spend their time enjoying FREE quality content that answers all their questions they have ZERO incentive to click an ad.

If you're selling them something, you only give them part of the story and sell them the conclusion. If you define quality as providing all the answers for free you'll make a lot of friends but also be broke.

For most my sites, Google is my friend and Google keeps sending people.

Social referral traffic doesn't convert well. You don't want traffic for the sake of traffic but targeted buying traffic usually the kind Google sends either via SEO or Adwords.

I think the biggest mistake people make is believing that they have to choose between a small amount of good content, and a large amount of crappy content.

It's actually remarkably easy to churn out massive amounts of informative, easy-to-read content that has readers begging for more - and that's when they have to pay.

Most people seem to think they can't write lots of quality content quickly - I find that unlikely. I just think they've never tried properly. But if you do happen to be one of that very rare breed of people who can't write very well, then no problem - outsource it for $10 an article to someone who can write well.

I hate to see websites with crappy content on them, but I also hate to see websites with good content that aren't getting any traffic because there isn't enough content.

a friend once told me , that his technique of earning 12$ per week, is to keep his content bad, so people looking at the page ,will click on the ads because they are so bored with the content.
I wanted to laugh so hard, but then i dont want to burst his bubble and he seemed so proud about, and very happy with his 12$.:-D

On my old site, the average time on site dropped from about eleven minutes to just over six but my advertising was not well targeted.

Right now I am rebuilding a new site(s) with mostly old content going up first so my visitor times are way down at the moment but I do believe that I will get them back up over the course of time. You are definitely correct but no matter how long they spend on your site, it does not help if you do not have anything to offer them that pays LOL

    Just my two cents
