Paypal witholding funds

I heard that Paypal holds money in accounts for several months if the amounts in the accounts are high. I had also heard that there was some kid of rotator plug-in that allowed one to use Paypal competitors (along with Paypal) so that all of one's eggs are not sitting in one basket.

If such an animal exists, what is the name of it - or - is this found in some other kind of plug-in?

Finally, are there some good alternatives to using Paypal altogether?

TIA

There is no perfect service providers for people who always want to do stupid things online. I've been doing business online since 2002 with paypal and transferred hundreds of thousand dollars per year but never experienced any withholding of funds... Unless you are doing legal matters with your account, there is nothing to worry about.

This is my experience as well. If I know there is a lot of money coming into the account in a short time I warn PP. They even thanked me once for doing so.

I never thought of contacting them to let them know, good idea. I have never had problems with Paypal, but I like to be proactive.

      good for you,
Paypal as so many international companies work differently in each country

      i experienced horrible stuff with paypal France and Belgium;
and everything was solved when i transferred all the business merchants to paypal UK

so yes paypal UK is fantastic professional service

paypal France and Belgium is the worst crappy unprofessional service i have experienced, is till have one account frozen for more than 12 months,
the reason behind the difference is the managing staff they put in each countries

in France and Belgium, anyone selling infoproducts is considered suspicious when you start to pull big numbers

      so i will suggest you find a way to have a paypal account in USA/UK/Canada that seem the best choice if you want absolutely work with paypal;
or just take another international merchant, you can find some good one by attending a "digital show/worshop/expos"; and you will have someone you can call when you launch a product

PayPal always hold back a percentage of my cash for I think 3 months.
I guess they do it because I sell and ship physical products, and occasionally get returns or no-show deliveries.
I presumed PP was holding the cash back (which usualy amounts to 3 or 4 thousand dollars) in case of that happening.

Anyway, I appear to have no choice but to like it or lump it, and have come to think of it as a little nest egg if Google ever decide to kill my sites.

That holding of funds is only temporary. Once you establish yourself with them they stop holding the funds. For me it was about 6 months and for the past 7 years my account has been in very good standings and I have never had a problem

I've had an account with Paypal for longer than I care to remember and this only came in about a year ago.
Like I say, it's possibly because I have a high turnover of physical products, so Paypal is just covering its back, because I do get a high number of holds on orders, especially as I ship to a lot of far flung corners of the globe...

I have heard of this before, people having their account frozen when they suddenly are getting a lot of money, but I don't understand the reason for that.

Anyways, 2 alternatives I know so far are Payza and Alertpay (previously MoneyBookers)

Once you are established with paypal, they will stop holding money but initially might hold i for a while.

Same here. I've been using Paypal since about 2002 and not a single problem that I couldn't solve after a quick call to my rep.

I've also been using PayPal since the early 2000's and never had any sums, large or small, held for any time, let alone 3 months.

But they sure love to take the buyers side on ANY dispute. Overall the few, if any, headaches I have had with PayPal are WELL worth the advantages of taking PayPal.

What would be considered as "a lot"? In other words, what would PayPal consider a high sum (that warrants locking the account)? On the board, I have seen posts of locking for "high amounts" but I do not recall a figure that would trip an alarm.

So you are saying that you were not able to pull any money whatsoever for six months? Did you move to another account that would allow you to collect money in a more timely manner or did you continue to do business with PayPal during that time?

Finally guys, it was my understanding that there existed some kind of plug-in (Wordpress perhaps) that did some kind of rotation between accounts(?)
One purchase would go to Account #1 (with Pay Pal) A
A second purchase would go to Account #2 (with a different processor)
      .. and so on

The idea was to equally distribute the purchases to different accounts (in case Pay Pal did shut an account down for 6 months, one would not be left high and dry).

Of course, I don't plan to do anything stupid (and can understand that PayPal protects itself) - but - from what I remember from a thread sometime ago, the freezes occurred without warning (some for months at a time) leaving people to seek other ways of supporting themselves until it was lifted.

It was the reason why I was also looking for some kind of "Plan B" solution as a safety measure.

Each year I send and receive in the multi 6 figure range through PayPal. They never have withheld any of my money at all. I also have a PP Master Card which makes accessing your cash or making payments easy. I have used PP for payments for over 6 years. Never a single issue with them.

    Hi!

All good on this end with Paypal.

I have heard stories; no probs here.

Just make sure payments are for good and services.

Paypal does raise red flags if you note transfers as "gifts."

    Hope this helps.

I was at an Adam Ginsberg seminar earlier this year and he said that if an Ebay seller who added certain products to their line (i.e. cellphones or laptops) and began getting a larger income from those products PayPal might hold some funds temporarily because of prior issues with some products. But he did not indicate it would be for a long period. Just enough to give them some assurance about anew product line.

I have not had any issues but would call them if something like that came up.

Always have a back-up, or six, in place if Paypal plays tricks.
I stopped selling on eBay because of Paypal refund policies.

Paypal rocks, sometimes when there are suspicious activities going on they might lock your account temporarily till you verify it once again.

For example I logged in from a different Thai IP (I informed them that I live in Thailand, always do that when having huge life changes) but when I logged in I had my capslock on so 3 times wrong password.

It got locked in the weekend, which was a bit nasty, I mailed my rep guy and monday first thing in the morning he got back to me, normally the verification process would take 2-3 days, he got it fixed for me within 1-2 hours.

Paypal makes a lot of money from us with their high fee's but their service is top notch, especially when you're a large client with an account in good standing (minimum amount of refunds/disputes).

The main reason they with hold large funds is for money laundering i.e If a large anount of money goes in to an account overnight they will put a freeze on It until till you can verify the account is legit

  • There is no way as far as I know around this. I had both paypal and merchant accounts hold money especially if a promo took off and I had more sales then they deem "normal". With the merchant we even warmed them a promo is on the way didn't matter they took part of the money held it in reserves for months.

I know lots of my mastermind members have this problem from time to time.
