If you're stuck at the starting gate...

There's always a fair amount of threads on here from folks needing a place to start, 'something that works' or have jumped from one type of activity to another and had no success.

Here's an idea that you may not have considered: Buy a website that is already producing sales.

Here's the thing, it's not just that you can buy a website that has a few sales coming through and sit back and do nothing, the idea is you see exactly how every element works, the product, the delivery, the sales funnel, the graphics, who the target market is, where the traffic comes from, everything in the chain that goes from traffic to sale is right there for you to reverse-engineer, to learn from and duplicate in other niches (or drill up or down in the same niche), find other products to sell to the list etc.

Now, you will need to do your homework first! you'll need to learn all the things involved in how to scrutinise a prospective purchase, how to verify the traffic, etc. how to appraise the value of a website / product for sale etc. so you don't get duped.

What I think is actually a very viable business model would be for several people to form a little co-op and start a portfolio of profitable websites, just as you might form a company to buy property, some you keep for income, some you flip for a profit. In this case you also learn from them, you get to see exactly what someone else has done to go from idea to profit.

Anyway, I'm just throwin 'em out there. A bit like Johnny Appleseed, maybe something will grow.

In that case the best way is to start offering services online (writing, translations, graphics, programming or anything else you can do) and invest the money you make back in your I'm business...

That's another reason why I mention teaming up with another person or two. Split the cost as well as divide the tasks involved in researching / evaluating.

Everyone seems to want to do it all by themselves and often it's just too much to try to do alone, not to mention the motivation / accountability factor when you have a business partner (obviously you have to have a biz partner that is going to put in the effort as well but I'm sure there are lots of suitable candidates on here)
