Default Back Online! Was down for 24 hours

So I had of great plans for yesterday, and then a little power blip, and I was offline. I probably good have taken my laptop to a cafe and worked there, but instead I made a few phone calls, and did a little communication on my gphone, though typing is pretty slow that way.

Have you ever had a ton of work to do, and then the internet went down on you?

You're right about that. I mostly watched TV and played with my cats last night, and it was nice to stay completely away from work (except the occasional gphone perusal)

That happens to me occasionally. I will usually lose the internet for a day or so. It is actually nice to focus on other things for awhile but I'm usually just too nervous about missing deadlines and getting behind. It is certainly better when you can plan to have away time.

My Bellsouth/AT&T DSL is so unreliable ... up and down all the time. They blame my modem and router - even though I can set my alarm to their down times since it happens everyday at the same time ... silly people.

I take the time to do some housework or read a book. If the weather is good, I take a walk.

Unfortunately in my house in france it happens kinda regulary and normally a problem with my wireless box.

Yet it seems that i will have been working all through the night then i go to sleep to wake up and find that randomly hours and hours later its just crashed and a phone call to the provider is in order.

Kinda annoying really but its nice sometimes to have a forced break, just worse when i have something important to do. Especially seeing as i live in the middle of no where.

Well it seems at least your down times are dependable.

One of the very few issues with living here in the Philippines is the constant and seemingly random occurrences of brownouts (with no electric) or with no Internet Connection with my current provider where I live now. The same ISP was very dependable where I used to live but here ... ach!

It makes planning and deadlines a pain but I also generally get my work in to my clients as soon as it is done ... and generally I have to bid a bit long on the time just in case anything does happen. I am sure that does cost me some lost work but for the time, it is just the price I pay to remain in Paradise.

When my net connections are down, I break out the Waterman and work on my Science Fiction.

TV? What is that?

I currently have internet access thanks to my neighbor in the next apartment. He allows me to tap into his DSL line via a wireless setup. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't be online period as I can't afford it. The problem is that his job keeps him away for 3 weeks at a time so if there is a problem (which there has been in the past), I can't get to the router to reset it. But I am thankful that he allows me to access his connection for free.

Ooh! I HATE AT&T. I reported them to the better bureau after 30 minute hold times. Here is a portion of the complaint:

My second "run in" with AT&T was related to billing. Let me start by saying that my wife and I have great credit. Recently, we received a notice about non-payment of our bill. I think we did not receive one of our statements. I tried to call. I waited 30 minutes and hung up. I was calling not only to ask questions about the bill, but also to cancel one part of our service (the phone). Then a day later AT&T called me with a recorded message and clicked to speak with someone. Being in the car, I did not have my pass code. I again waited 30 minutes and was not able to speak with someone (remember they called me). I tried to call back 2 days later, and again I could not get through.

I always pay bills in reasonable time, and my credit score reflects that, but when I cannot simply call and ask a question, this is what I call "non-service".

I had issues with ATT when I used them for my ISP. When I canceled my account they continued billing me. My credit card company actually told me that they found some way to make it legal and there was no way they could fight it. They offered me their only solution ... the very fact that they already had one in place showed me it was an all-too common occurrence ... but they simply issued me a new credit card with a new number and said that was actually the easiest way to get ATT to quit billing me.

Yeah, I can see having problems with them these days!

Oh, yea. I had several billing issues to clear up AFTER my account was closed and I had paid what I thought was the final bill. I think the only thing consumers like us can do is report them to the BBB.

I use Cox Digital Cable out here in Arizona - They're pretty reliable, but yesterday it went down for about 2 hours. I was not a happy camper >
