How Often should you update your blog

Is there any secrets that increase your rankings by how many times you update your blog.

Some say twice a week, works the best, not really sure, need some advise on this topic, others say too many updates will have an effect on how your blog ranks.

Anyone have any advise on this topic, much appreciated..

Update your blog twice a week with quality content, if not twice then atleast once a week is fine and also share your content on social networks to get some links, it will improve your ranking.

Whenever you have something to post.

Don't "force" it just to put something up.

Of course, the more consistently - the better, but don't post just for the sake of posting.

Yes very true, only post when you have something worthy to be shared with your audience

Different niches will require different post timelines. See what works well for your direct competitors. If it's working well for their search rankings, then it will work well for yours.

Once you have a common post frequency for your niche, you can start to build a content plan. High quality and informative content all the way!

I would update it whenever you have a post worth releasing. If you are like me and your drive comes once every few days, i would write maybe 3 posts in a day, and let post one a day.

As much A Possible... if you have an article and all ready to post then do it... I highly recommend that you write two or three article a day even if you don't want to post only because you want to have that habit of writing and posting... having a well content blog will give the search engines a great opportunity to give you a great rating and ranking you higher and higher

Never really though of that before Joseph, writing two or three post each and every day. Could be a great way to build additional post to use when ever you feel they have worthy content.. thanks

I agree with most of the responses. Blogging takes a lot of work. If you're blogging to get traffic, then I would work on being a bit more consistent. I would also make sure that the blog post is optimize for specific keywords. All of this takes time and effort. None of it is easy, but the one thing that I have discovered amongst those that have had success is that consistency is key. I might even venture to say that consistency + time = success. You must be consistent and you have to give it the appropriate amount of time to get results. Plus, I would work on building an audience so that when you post to your blog, you can update your audience and send them to your blog to read your content. I hope this makes sense.

In my opinion it's not about how many times you update it, but how much value you provide in it. Adding new content a few times a month is a plus as it shows you are consistent and are looking to help the readers.

The best results I ever had working for clients as a blogger was on the websites we updated every day with the highest quality content we could. The problem is that it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain a daily blog post and it's even harder if you take the time to interact with each of your readers which I personally believe is even more important a task than writing more blogs posts. If we are just talking about search engines then the more posts you have online the more traffic you are generally going to get just from pure sharing and backlinking without even getting into keywords and such. I recommend that you post as often as you can post quality. If you have nothing valuable to say than sometimes it is best to skip a day or even a week. But all in all, there's a lot to be said for posting as often as you can.

Kevin said it perfectly, take an example, if your site is in celebrity niche, you will need to update it very often with articles that should follow the news, about celebrities. On the other hand, if you are in health niche, you'll have to post new articles not so often...

The best thing in my own opinion is a fresh news about old topic, if you write good quality article, you will rank it with easy.

There are two types of articles in my business:
    1) Paid
    2) Free

My paid particles are for my members and my free articles are for the public.

It is not easy, but a sole person can only write a limited amount of articles. For me, even one a week became boring, so I quit writing one a week. My visitors wrote-in and asked me why I quit and I was honest with them about it. After a few months I was only writing one article a month and that also triggered my visitors to write-in and ask for more.

Instead of writing free articles I implemented a paid article business and it is now a major part of my online income. Nearly all of the people who wrote-in asking for more are now paid subscribers.

Here are a few things I learned over the years:

    1) Serious online business people are very serious about making money online and they will pay for proven methods.

    2) Serious online business people are very willing to pay for technical services.

A lot of people will tell you to write high quality relevant content and though that is very true it does present problems. The main problem is it is a umbrella statement for general blogs. In my opinion it is more profitable to stay away from general blogs and focus on the target customer. Not to be confused with the target market. When I focus high quality relevant content on the customer's 'wants & needs' I tend to avoid the target market in general and make more money from the target customer.

Update twice a week, under a full moon only (if you don't know how to do this when the moon isn't in the right phase then you don't belong in this business anyways). Make sure to burn 7 rams and 7 sheep (unspoiled and free of defect) at the altar of Google. Keyword density must be no more than 2.555% and no less than 2.554% otherwise it won't work.

Make sure at least ten friends share your post within 7 minutes or the person that was going to kiss you will fall in love with your biggest rival!

It depends on the numbers you want to hit and your capacity/investment. These will be directly correlated.

i.e. if you want relatively small increases then 1/2 posts a week will typically fine. If you wants a ton of traffic, then it will require more content.

It's impossible to state a number without knowing your marketing/promotion/advertising practices alongside your content creation.

    Hi,

You're far better off writing about something that is worth sharing
rather than just trying to impress Google and writing tons of low
    quality articles.

The thing is if you're working on your business anyway you
should have plenty to write about as you progress.

People love to read real stories that are packed with great information
and content that actually shares real experiences especially business
    ones.

Just share your skills, your results, your experiences.

Only write when you know it's right!

This is something I've tested scientifically.

When I blog daily? My traffic goes through the roof.

(I actually analyzed my traffic while blogging daily, and at one point my blog traffic SEPTUPLED as a result of blogging daily).

The problem is... That I run out of thing to say, or am too busy doing other stuff.

    So, as a result?

I blog like once a week now.

Traffic isn't as great as it was... But the mere quantity of visitors isn't everything.

    My advice?

Blog whenever you feel like it. At least once per week.

    :]

    Quality > Quantity

      From my personal experience,

When it comes down to making a blog post,

You should spend twice as long promoting it, as you did creating it.

The quality is more important than the quantity, but if you write a bunch of quality posts, and nobody sees them... What is the point right?

There is a lot of blog syndication websites, and networks to share your posts on...
So like she said I think it would be important to focus on writing 2 Quality posts per week...

and spending the other days continuously promoting the content you have already created. Hope this helped ;p

Update everyday if you can. If you can't do it once a week. The key is to be consistent. The more valuable content you have on your blog the better. Keyword being valuable. Don't just update for the sake of updating. If you have something to say, post it. If you don't, wait until you do.

I look to the high traffic blogs on the internet to see what they are doing, and then emulate them.

Lets take Mashable.com and Buzzfeed.com as examples.

      How often do they post?

A ridiculous amount of times per day.

How do they keep up with the demand?

They have a ridiculous amount of writers on their staff/guest posters.

Can I afford a ridiculous amount of writers to be on staff?

      Nope.

      So, what can I do?

      Recruit guest posters.

This single, simple act of recruiting quest posters has been one of the better traffic strategies I have ever used.

Here is how I get guest posters:

      1. Contact thought leaders in my space to do email interviews. I send them a word document with thought provoking questions, they answer it, I let them put links where they want and I get a free post with amazing content that my readers love.

I typically group these interviews into "Series" - for example, you could have an Interview the Abs Expert Series and then have an Interview the Cardio Experts Series etc. and you can run these series ALL THE TIME - and if your questions are good they can last forever.

      2. I like to use Blog Link Up and I just post every once in a while that my site accepts guest posts.

I have found that my quality of guest poster increases by how well I have stocked the blog with interest stuff already. Some people are willing to write guest posts even for low traffic sites as long as they think the existing content is interesting and they want to be involved.

Between those two options and writing yourself, you should have more than enough content to keep you and your readers busy.

There's very little, if any, effect on regularly updating your blog that will increase your ranking.

What is far more important is the QUALITY of your blog, and equally important is the QUALITY of the comments, likes, shares, and other types of interaction on your blog.

There are any number of great internet marketers (Derek Halpern comes to mind) who only update their blog 3 times a month and still have a great blog rank.

If you post crap that nobody cares about, you could probably update your blog every minute and it would have 0 effect.

    Just my 2 cents

I'm a pretty regular blogger, 5 times a week, but I have certain features on Monday and Friday that are quick video posts planning the week ahead (Luke's Monday Manifesto) and recapping the week (Luke's Friday Round Up). Tue-Thu I dedicate more time to really good content. As I am charting what I call 'My Escape From The Slave Cycle' it is pretty easy to come up with fresh and relevant content.

All that said, I think you should only post when you have something decent to offer and if you can't come up with that twice a week you might want to consider a change of content, 'voice' or niche to something you find more inspiring and east to talk about. Once you get into a blogging rhythm you find creating content comes more natural.

Keep a diary and jot down ideas when they arise. Then only go back to it when you are stuck. You'll be surprised how helpful it is!

Good luck and enjoy the process or else what's the point?

The main thing is consistency. I am only able to blog once a week, but because i have been consistent, It has worked out fine for building out my business. I will blog more if I have something of interest to say. I would concentrate on picking a blogging schedule and thinking about researching and creating quality content, sharing and syndicating your content, emailing your list if you have one and communicating with your followers and blog comments.

Well you are talking about SEO.... so ya frequency does come into play because Google loves fresh content. But, if your content is not quality then it won't achieve your goal no matter how much traffic you get. Also, i'd just like to mention SEO is risky, time-consuming, and unreliable in my opinion because Google changes it algorithm almost daily soo you never know when your traffic could get turned OFF.

I think the answer is going to depend on "why" you're blogging.
I blog only when I want to because blogging is not making me the most income. Blogging works better as a lead generator.

However, if someone blogs because they want to build that as their main source of income for affiliate marketing or generating advertising revenue, then I believe they're going to have to be very dedicated to their blog...treat it like gold with a wealth of content and often enough to keep loyal readers engaged.

once a week with quality content. It will give time to people to see it and talk about it more. If more people talk about it 5-6 days rather than 2-3 days google will love you more
